SIN Card Problem?

My Brother and I are both ordering Equifax reports today to check up on our credit ratings in preperation for a condo purchase.

When he entered his information, it was rejected each time and the only reason we can come up with is something is wrong with the SIN #. All info was entered correctly. Any insight as to why the card is being rejected?

Google was no help, and everything is closed today.

this could be a long shot, but check if the sin number is valid

If you take the number, e.g.

046 454 286 <--- A fictitious, but valid SIN, and multiply the digits by the numbers below,

121 212 121

you get

086 858 276

(if you get a 2 digit number, e.g. 8*2=16, then add the two digits together)

add all of them together

0+8+6+8+5+8+2+7+6=50, you should get a number divisible by 10.

If you don't, you will have to get it checked out.

That solution worked.

Perhaps there is a mixup at the Government? I really hope that it is not a case of identity theft... Sucks for him.

Ok. He cannot order it online, cannot order it via touchtone phone, the last option is to request via writing for it.

This is with Equifax. Any ideas as to why he cannot access it?

May I recommend going into a bank and asking them to pull it?
