If you look at the mercedes-benz.ca website under calgary, Lone Star has a 2002 Silver SLK32. I don't know how up to date that is.

If you really want one, there are tonnes for sale in the U.S. Not sure how much duties, taxes are for importing one but given the current exchange rate and asking price, would be your best bet. However, I think SLK32 owners have to sign some sort of waiver form preventing sale of the car across the border, not sure if this only applies during the first year or however many.

Only the first year, and that's ONLY from Canada to US. You can buy US cars and bring them up here no problems. It's because canadian cars are about 10% cheaper than US cars (well, it was when the exchange rate was at 1.5)

I have a 2004 SLK32 (R170) for sale with 0 miles @ MSRP. It is ready to go today.

It is white with two tone (black/creme) interior with Xenon headlamps (they aren't standard equipment on the 2004s)

Car is in Walnut Creek, CA so you'd have to drive it back :)

Increase income without increasing expenses and you should get there quickly :)

Best way to increase income is to do something that is very hard to do or in great demand.

Most conventional way to figure out how to do something that is hard or in demand is to get formal education.

If you want all the cars you'll ever need, go to Harvard, get an MBA, then run a Fortune 500 company and make $25 million bucks a year.

Either that, or create (or get) a job that requires you to drive nice cars. Exotic car brokerage, working at a high end car dealership, etc. are nice ways to get there fast.

Hey, I was just answering a question. I drive whatever I want, and it is because I work my ass off to make it happen.

If you're lazy, you'll have to settle for mediocre cars unless you are incredibly lucky.

It worked well for me, I did it for 2 years before I got married!

Living at home rocks, you save up money so fast hehe. Always have the best toys. Now that I got a mortgage, I've slowed down my spending like crazy.

Back on topic, if you want a SLK 32, I have a silver one available, 2004, at the end of the month/early sept.

I'd still be living with my parents if they were in the same country. No rent, no bills and no hassles. I can't imagine living on my own if it wasn't necessary :)

I'm jealous of everyone that lives with their parents. Goddamn mortgages.

I'd do that, but renting my house out would be a major undertaking. My neighbors rented out their house, and it took a few months before someone would buck up.

werd as it is in my culture... but just think about the sacrifice you are making at your parents house....and then think about the potential benefits

you get a down payment on a house (say 10%) so 15-20 grand....and cosign a mortgage with one of your parents. you then rent the main floor/upper and basement of the house seperately....and you are then making approx (depending on house, going rates etc.) 1000$ for upper living area and say 700$ for the basement. you pay off your utilities, and the rest goes straight to the mortgage. you can pay off your mortgage with the rent payments. wait a few years and you will soon have paid off a house, increased your net worth, and dont forget, houses appreciate!

sure it isnt as easy as i wrote, there are other factors to consider but if someone is willing to put the effort in....then its all good.

i dont care about lame mcplains etc etc. money is money.

Then after a few years of doing this, revenue canada comes after your ass for not paying taxes (renting out is income). They make you pay back taxes AND fines AND interest, so you end up having to sell your house to pay them off and start all over.

But if you DO pay taxes on the rental earnings, you realize the fuckers you rented out to don't take care of your house too good. And even though they're paying for 1/2 of your mortgage after taxes, you end up paying big bucks to clean up after their mess. Gotta get a loan to fix that crap up!

haha it's not easy :). The only way it works is if you're bling bling and own houses, then you'll come up on top because you're not paying $800/month on interest.

Increasing assets without increasing expenses is a dam fast way to get rich (E36M3)

Redlyne, you said it best. Even rage2 lived at home until the last couple years and look at how bling he is :bigpimp: haha NOT

Many of you seem to forget the fact that most of us are still finishing up school and have to pay off student loans etc. No shame living at home when you have so many bills to pay for. And seems like those of you who make these comments are all 25+up. Well no shit sherlock, I won't be living at home at 25 either

I lived at home till I was 26. I've been living in my own house for only a year and a half. No shame!

I did move in with some chick when I was in my late teens/early twenties, and man, what a mistake. I lived off $2 vietnamese subs everyday. I was super broke ass.

IMO, you're an idiot if you let pride get in the way and not live with your parents if they allow it. Money is way better than pride!

I hope you have good tenants cause I had to kick the fcukers out of one of the houses I managed because they could no longer come up with rent. On top of that, utilities weren't paid for the last 3 months. All in all, out like $1000! Not to mention the headaches involved.

Just a question to you guys who move out asap, is it planned (or assumed) that you will support your parents when they are old?

sputnik

IT is the way to go in Calgary...

$40k+ starting out techie
$60k+ intermediate network tech
$80k+ advanced network tech
$80k - $120k security specialist
$75k - $100k IT management (depending on experience)

however if you go to school just to get a network education just to make money... dont waste your time/money... because unless you really like what you will be doing or have an interest in the subject you will get VERY bored... and generally not be as proficient as the guys that are genuinely interested in IT... and the employers will see that.

nothing wrong with living at home either... if it wasnt for the fact that i moved from winnipeg to calgary for my job i would be living at home now too... however... in a couple of months i will be in my own house here... it just took me a bit longer to save up a downpayment...

if you are living at home... and mooching off mom and dad... and not paying rent... you should feel SHAME... especially if most of your income is going towards your car...

at least pay your parents $400/month MINIMUM... and if you are asking your parents for money... JEEZ... get a DAMN LIFE... also... if you are feeling all bling because you sling dope from your bedroom... wake up... it wont last long... and you will be 30 with no education... and no hope...

my friends dads has been in realestate for 20+ years... he owns over 5 million in houses and has all them paid off... basically all the rent he gets is profit now... play you're cards right and its a good business to be in... he gave each one of his kids a house when they turned 20... and just bought the two sons a landscaping company for them to manage... $$$$$$$

I think that those salaries are very optimistic. I doubt that anyone pays those rates anymore, except in rare circumstances. The problem is that there are just too many qualified people without jobs.

Nah, if you can find the job, all starting positions still pay around $40k, except for startups and really small companies.

E36M3
09-06-2003, 11:27 AM
I was thinking more of the other ranges really. The management range is realistic, but security specialists don't make 120k, no matter how good they are, especially in this market.

I still think it would be incredibly hard to get a starting position at 40k right now, but that is probably because nobody is hiring.

We hire software testers all of the time for $38-42k. Starting for desktop tech (as long as you have some server experience) stars at $40k.

I know of a number of admins with 6-10 years of experience getting 6 digits with a few oil companies.

As for security specialists... $120k is a TOP end and usually will have a CCIE or some crazy experience. Large telcos and big companies pay good money for that. However its more of a design and architecture role and not a hands on router programming geek.
