My buddy has a 90 Honda Accord and I would say hes pretty fast off the line. But soon as he gears to third he's done I fly past him everytime. Is the gear ratio that terrible or what? Anyone got any hints at fixing his troublesome transmission?

Peace,

Ben

How about the fact that the Accord is not a race car, and is by no means fast. Its not geared to be a race car, it was geared to cruise comfortably and conserve fuel, hense the taller gearing and lack of top end.

hey my old 88 civic DX has quick take off first and second and when i got to third it just goes down hill haha small CC and lack of cylinders are the reason why i guess

he's unloading in 3rd. It's your fuel man. You have a nasty hull.

I dunno if thats right... My 89 accord, and my buddies (sin)'s 90 accord are kinda slow off the line, but once my car hits about 70 it just flies!

ya, theyre dead slow off the line, but at about 4500rpm at every gear, it hauls (in comparison), to 6250, then shifts

actually, vw did design the GTI to be a pocket rocket, whereas honda designed the accord to be a family cruiser.

they are both good cars. i used to drive a 4th gen accord and now im thinking of getting one again, cuz they are slow and comfortable cars to cruise around in.

3rd gear is prolly around 100km/h and with a stock accord, you just have no more power. If the transmission is fine, increase the horsepower, that should make it move a bit faster. OR you can just, not race anymore, so this problem doesen't happen.
