I have no idea what something like this is worth, but you're asking $1800 or trade for a $500-600 item? Maybe if you asked $500-600 or trade for______, you'd have more success?

:dunno:

$1800 is completely unreasonable for this. I hate to be the asshole coming into this thread to shit on the price you've picked out for it, but let's look at a couple things here:

1) The hardware, even fully assembled, is not worth $1800, as far as I can tell. If there's a hard drive or something that's made out of solid platinum, let us know.

2) You're asking for a trade item worth ~$500. That doesn't quite add up.

3) You state that you have no need for it, and just want it gone, but your asking price suggests a lack of research.

That said, I'm curious: Where did this come from? Why do you have it, and why are you selling it? What's it been used for?

Just trying to help get you a few more bites on this thing than you've gotten so far. =)

You should run Belarc Advisor on it.

Then you can post very detailed accurate specs on it, and possibly get more bites.

And a pic or 2 would help alot.

Was this just something some smelly guy in a basement threw together? or is it a specific make/model/brand?

pics may have to wait as i dunno where my camera is, suspect its at the GFs house...

and no not made by the monkey in the IT office. this thing is custom made for our company by specialty company. note that this was medical equipment. which means it has to meet standards that are far beyond that of any other time of server.

the only thing about the belcar thing i cant agree w/ is the Hdd

bios says theres 1 hdd, @ 36Gb.

belarc says this:
88.22 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
26.37 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space

but i can see 5 when i look inside.
*i thought they were 70gb each. but maybe they're 36, i dont know

Alterac

That depends on the Raid configuration and the partitioning.

Belarc from windows will not see *unix partitions.

Seems to me like 5 x 72GB SCSI 10K rpm drives.

Dude, if someone at the company finds out you're trying to dump this thing in public they're going to take a shit on your employment contract. You can't erase a disk completely, it's impossible....which is why companies like this flatten the drives multiple times before dumping them into a shredder. You will never ever ever see drives with personal information offered for sale outside the company, especially one with personal medical information on it.

Uh, their is a way to clean the drives properly, but it takes a very long time, like 20hrs per GB.

DBAN with NSA Secure wipe will be 99% good enough.

There's no good enough in the medical industry, drives are shredded.

Thats not true either. Whats your source?

I have a relative that works in the IT sector for Radiology and they just wipe (using a professional disk cleaning service) and drop their drives off at the electronics recyclers.

I know we would all like to think that companys are responsible for the data they carry.. but 99% of the time, they dont care, or dont even think about it.

Anyways, if you want to continue the discussion about data protection and wiping of drives / disposal, we should start a thread in the computers section, not clutter up this poor guys for sale thread.

I work in IT for Fortune 100 companies across North America. But we're both seen it done different ways so it looks like we're both right.

Back to the sale I guess.
