So heres the story i got a speeding ticket going 107km/h in a 50km zone on friday. I have a pretty bad driving record and am scared of getting my license suspended. should i go to a lawyer to get this solve or just plead guilt and get whatever charges.
i was told i could get one of those law students at the UofC for cheap.

ya i also tried to book it from the cop n he caught me.
it was a stupid thought that i really could get away now i am pretty much fuked even if i dont get suspeneded my insurance is sky rocket its right now $4700 full coverage with 1million liability. How much more can it go up?

Get a lawyer and do a defensive driving course before your court date.

defensive driving takes 3 demerites off your license w/o it i wouldn't have a license eather. thats why i drive so fucking slow now

damn...that's not a good decision. Plus 107km/h in a 50 zone is pretty fast. Where'd this happen?!? You should go seek out a lawyer ASAP. Try going to Pointts down at the Rocky Mountain Plaza they might help you. If not, you might have to go search for a good traffic lawyer on your own. Good luck and hopefully this incident will set you straight!

yep, youre fucked. if you go to the court date, i can almost guarantee that the cop will show up.

why were you driving so god damn fast anyways?
no offense, but people like you should have their liscence taken away.

Put on your flamesuit.

But seriously man? 107 in a 50 and you already have a terrible driving record, you should be smarter than that, it sounds like you've burned through all of your chances.

What excuse do you have for going that fast in a 50 zone, anyways? I have less of a problem with 50 over on the highway, those roads are built for high speeds, but in the city? There's a reason the limit is 50 on city streets, you should be happy you didn't rack up your car and seriously hurt yourself or someone else.

And then you try to get away from the cop - you're lucky he didn't tack anything else on.

You're a moron. You deserve to lose your license. I shouldn't have to share the roads with someone like you. You make my insurance increase.

Oh hoho your just asking for it, and of all places on beyond where you'll get ripped apart.

Only choice for you is to get a lawyer, no way your getting out of that situation without one.

haha i saw in your name that you're also located in Toronto. You're lucky this happened in Calgary or else you would been put in the slammer plus license suspended. Plus your car would be impounded!

Your a shit driver making stupid mistakes. You do not deserve your license and you deserve super high insurance rates. You reap what you sew.

04-16-2008, 06:44 PM
you'll end up paying more for the lawyer then for the ticket anyways, so it might not be worth it because a month down the road you'll be doing 107 in another 50 zone and get your liscence taken away for good and even worse, injure or kill someone along the way.

better yet, put the money you were going to use for a lawyer towards a transit pass.

Definitely hire a lawyer.

And check this thread out:

Some serious fines for 50+ over the limit. Don't risk it, hire a lawyer. And not points or some shit, a real lawyer.

1st... how did you think you could out run the cops in a car? especially a prelude?

2nd.... your only hope is a lawyer. Pointts or Traffic Defence in Road King. I have had a 50 over ticket when i was a young pup and the Lawyer turned it into a "fail to yield" or something like that.

pffft, done it twice in my civic in my younger, stupider days. 190 hp is plenty to motivate those lil pricks, the rest is between the ears of the guy holding the wheel. I wasn't caught either time, but this was before the coming of the polie helicopter.

live and learn kid. I spent some time with a suspended lisense when i was younger and I think you deservre it. You seem to have a problem with controlling your desires to speed, and you clearly make bad deisions. When i ran those 2 times i had no doubt in my mind i'd lose the fuzz, as there was no chance of a chopper getting called in. (and you're clearly slower than molases behind the wheel)

Do the crime, do the time. And to answer your question. yes, it can go WAY higher than 4,700. In the wake of my thick-headedness, I heard quotes approaching 8,500 for coverage.

Hey man, your situation is pitiful and I'm sure you know by now that there is no excuse.

I know that many people here are ripping you to shreds over your "dumb mistake," and it's cool that you're not retaliating either.

You should look at this situation as an opportunity to build some character. For someone to go 107 in a 50 zone, there are definitely some hints of immaturity and I think having your license taken away will teach you a good lesson about humility and following the rules.

89s1
04-16-2008, 08:55 PM
could you post your plate number up, that way if anyone is feeling particularly adventurous one day they could attempt a P.I.T. maneuver on your car knowing that you're endangering public safety nearly 100% of the time your driving..... :hitit:

So the option of going for a defensive driving school for you is a no go then? That was the easy way out of this... I suggest trying to get a lawyer and try to get the demerits down at least.

Sorry to hear about this, I guess you won't be speeding for a while from now on. Try to go to POINTTS in rocky mountain plaza too and get a quote of what your options would be. Those guys are pretty good in helping traffic violations.

Just stop speeding man, I drive like a grandma in my mazdaspeed and damn proud of it. I'd rather be safe than sorry. You know about my bad accidents, recent ones too and it definitely opened up my eyes in driving safe. Good luck man.

demerits stay on your record for 2 years. convictions supposedly only follow you for 3 years.

now, the surcharges are mental once you do it more than once. "flight from a police officer" is a "criminal conviction"

50+ over is serious conviction

other convictions is anything with demerit value, not including things like tint tickets, parking tickets blah blah blah

Surcharges for criminal convictions:

one: 300%
two: 450%
for each additional conviction, add 150% to the preceding percentage

Surcharges for serious convictions:

one: 25%
two: 50%
three: 100%
four: 200%
five: 400%
six: 800%
for each additional conviction, double the preceding percentage

Surcharges for other convictions:
one: none
two: 25%
three: 35%
four: 50%
five: 75%
six: 100%
for each additional conviction, double the preceding percentage

WTF were you doing trying to run from the cops?? That's the part that's going to kill you. Get a lawyer, they will be able to make better of your situation, but still get the vaseline ready cause it's going to come down hard. If you think you can't afford a lawyer think again because you will more likely end up paying and suffering MORE then what you would if you had a lawyer. I just hope you learn from this.
