I am getting an alpine deck pretty soon, and am also looking into getting a sub, and amp.

I really like the quick bass response from 10" subs, and most seem to be good for both rap which i listen to most of the time, and for other music (punk/ska) because it is crisp bass.

Anyways, I have heard the MTX 8000 10" and I really like it, but have also heard really good things about eclipse subs. I am going to be puttin it in a custom box like this (sealed) http://images.cardomain.com/member_img_a/214000-214999/214133_32_full.jpg

Please help me choose an amp and sub. I want good stuff not crap, and it will most likely be bought at audio Concepts.

get audiobahn, or get xtant (the 8 sided subs) or get cerwin vega strokers!!

audiobahn sucks. they are too sloppy and just damn loud. xtant is good too expensive. try a jl w7 just like that picture or an eclipse ti.

and no one can help you choose you have to go an listen to it yourself to see what you like.

It sounds like you are into nice sounding music rather than just plain loud. That is my philosophy with music as well....and the reason my whole system is alpine.

For nice SQ at a decent price, check out a 10" type r or a 10" JL. If you want to avoid getting 2 subs, go for a sub with a Dual Voice Coil, which will give you a bit more power and sound. You willl have to spend a bit more on a good amp but thats ok....you will like the 10" for nice crisp tight bass. I am running 1 10" type r off of the MRD M300 and it hits hard enough for all situations. And it doesnt sound like ghetto bass either....

Good luck...

It is actually a W6v2. And I have heard good things about eclipse. Anyone know how much that sub would be? I dont want to spend a fortune. I want to stay in the range of about 300 for the sub.

And Mckenzie, you seem to know excactly what I am talking about! I want it to sound really good, not just pound. I am not sure about the alpine type R. But something along those lines wouold be wicked.

cerwin vega strokers are not good for crisp clean bass at all, they are a spl sub, they have no purpose other then really competition. buy a 10 w7, i have one with a jl500/1 amp, and it sounds amazing. I hit a 133.9 DB at the A&B sound show, 1 10 pretty good. newer w6's are pretty good too, they are a lot cheaper, but not as high quality.

I would probly get a W7, but I am surely not going to spend that much money on my system. At least not right now.

Audiobahn is simply SPL, no quality and no good sound.

I'd look into the MTX 8000, it's a great sub at good price and combines both SPL and SQ. Eclipse will blow most subs out of the competition, but you need to spend a LOT of cash. I'm a little biased however, since I have an 8000.

A better way to answer this is to find out how much you want to spend on the sub alone.

I am lookin at about 300 for the sub. And right now, i think I am going to be getting an eclipse. From what I hear they are amazing.

For $300, you can't even buy Eclipse packaging man. A good eclipse will cost over 3x that amount and even used, there isn't much unless its the plain black/brown ones, but those are shitty.

Are those plain black ones shitty? not from what I hear. I can get one for 300.

haah well the eclipse subs we are talkin about are the ti's. the blacks one are ok. maybe you should try a infinity kappa perfect which can be bought under 300. i have one and i think in my opinion taht it is an extremely clean sub and can pound with the others. the jl w6v2 is around 600 and the w7 is way over 1000.

I'd stay away from this one. Nothing special, and you can do wayyy better for $300.

Have you considered Elemental Design subwoofers? You have to have it shipped, but it is the BEST subwoofer you can buy for your budget and it will still compete with some that are twice as expensive. For about $300, you can have a subwoofer that outperforms the 10W7.

Check their website for more details.

That is definately not the eclipse sub I am talking about. The one I am looking at is about 600W RMS I beleive.

And those infiniti Kappa's are really good?? I haven't heard much about them.

Kappas are awesome subs, but more for clarity than SPL. They can be made to hit hard though, with a good amp and proper box. They are very expensive though, around $350 new.

O.K. Thanks for the info. I guess I am going to have to hear these subs to really know what I want.

Well, I am starting to reconsider this. My new idea is the eclipse Ti, and an alpine MRD-M500 Amp.

Any thoughts on this setup? I think it would rock.

That amp is killer. I almost bought it but went for the model down. I am not sure on the model of the sub butt you cant go wrong with the amp. ;)

If you really want to rock, get good shit, and you don't want to spend money you don't have then i would suggest either Concept, or Cadence. i can make a call and get you a smoking deal on either from my old friends in the biz.
the Concept CEX10 - DVC 6ohm trashed both the rockford HX2 & type R's in a box that ACM built for a friend of mine running Xtant amps that ACM sold him.

Concept rocks harder and sounds better than anything i have ever heard under $500 in 12 yrs selling stereos. and they have a 6yr warr.

Never heard of them.

And legendboy, what is the RMS rating on your sub? cuz I want to know if i can compare it to some of the subs I have been looking at, because u say it hits hard with the MRD-M300

That.Guy.S30

haha if you do get the eclipse ti be prepared to get bent over for one sub. hey some guy on beyond was selling his eclipse system with an amp. check it out, maybe he will bust you a deal.

Lol, I know the Ti is fairly expensive, But I think in the end it will be worth it.

Are you talking to me? (pssst....I am not legendboy ;) )

Anyways, here are the specs:

power range 100-300 watts RMS
peak power handling 1,000 watts

The birth sheet on the MRD M300 is 335 RMS.

hell for a bit more you could get a focal 10", might cost you around 350-400, pound hard and sound good at the same time.

The birth sheet specs are usually unique to each individual amp. Most of the better-known car audio names will individualy bench test the amp and write down the specs on a little white peice of paper to ensure quality. The box says that it is only 300 w rms, however the BC says 335. All of alpines stuff is under-rated.

And yes it iis 335 rms at 2 ohms with an input voltage of 14.4 v.

Is there anywhere on the net that they have updated universal ratings for car audio, the reviews I've had on the net are comparative enough.

Hey man i can get you a brand new 10" Eclipse TI for about $700. Probably my favorite subs for overall usability.... nice and clean and loud as fuck. I would also run about 600watts to one. I can sell yah a new 800Watt concept class D for anout 700 aswell. Everything is warrentied and sold by an authorized dealer.... My good friend. Just for the record I have 2 12" TI's and a 2400Watt concept amp.
