Why standby power on newer electronics?

Seems like all the newer stuff is in standby instead of off?
Why? If u got 6 pieces in stand by how much power is being used over a month?

Its not really wasting much. For the most part the only things that really consume power are cable/satillite recievers because in "standby" mode all they really do is turn off the LED and shutdown the outputs. And turning it off is more off a hassle because you won't have any guide data for a while when you turn it back on.
