Any subaru gurus out there? I am thinking of bringing in a wrx from japan. Are the turbo/motor/tranny/awd comparable to any other north american subarus??? I would hate to buy the car, and then be paying BIG dollars everytime I need a part?

Subaru gurus please respond only!

Thanks

I think i read somewhere that the engines they use are comparable to the newer 2002+ WRX's? Although im not too sure if thats true.

Well I've been working at suburu for almost 6months now in that time I've only had the chance to work on 1 jdm wrx but have worked on serveral of the LHD variety.

as far as the motor and driveline are concerned they are the same cars but its some of the more minor stuff that is different.

things that come to mind
-ecu
-brake lines
-clutch master
-clutch lines
-obviously the steering rack

but just because suburu can order in these parts for this car expect to be waiting several weeks everytime you need parts (and thats if its off the RHD variety) very little stock is kept for the EJ20 motor.

as well if its approaching 100k be prepared for a timing belt and headgasket job withing the next 25k

I would say your best bet would asking the guys over at Westernsubaruclub.com, But parts wise there isnt much difference almost everything is compatible between 2008-1993 almost everything can be swapped over from a wrx to a Impreza
