Does anyone have any information on importing a vehicle from great britain? My girlfriends cousin is going to move over here, and wants to bring his WRX STi over here with him. Is such a thing possible?

I believe you can import a car over if you are moving here.

He wants to get a left hand drive conversion done on it. Would the car have to be sporting a VIN from a salvage title for that to work?

They will probably have to find some loop holes. I know you are allowed to keep your imported car if you are moving to Canada from another country; however I do not know how long you are able to keep possession of the vehicle.

I think it would be easier to pull the engine and other goodies and just do an engine swap on a Subaru here.
We had a discussion on importing cars a while back...

They make absolutely incredible track cars. Would be a pretty killer toy either way.

Warren, it is possible.

He (foreigners) can bring the car there for a period of 12 months, after which is must be exported out of the country, or destroyed. This doesn't work if he's a Canadian living in GB.
Your not allowed to part it out either/etc. Its a supervised exportation or destruction of the car.

If you want to keep the car in Canada permently, you'll need to do so using less than legal methods already mentioned...

Contact Canada Customs, and they can send you a pamphlet on importing a car into Canada (its also all on their webpage).
