Ok so my friend just put on this new Greddy bov on his Skyline GTST. It doesn't make the usual spraying sound but more of an echoing sound that you cant really hear unless you take it up to pretty high rpm's. He has tried to tune it to soft and hard but sound doesn't change. Is this a normal sound for the Greddy bov or did he do something wrong? Oh ya, he mounted it right where the stock one was.

are the vacuum lines hooked up properly? is he using a boost controller?

Sounds to me like the spring is too hard for the boost, try turning it all the way soft. Did you not get any extra springs with the BOV?

Is it venting to atmosphere?

If it is, then you can adjust it to make the pssh sound or a flutter sound if you set it to hard.

If its recirc. you're not going to hear a pssh. I've seen them on MR2's and Talons and if they're recirc. they make the sound you're taking about. Its a muffled echo like sound.

If you want the pssh, you have to sacrafice performance and vent to atmosphere (and probably run rich for a second or two during the BOV).

oh ok, so your saying the bov is supposed to make that fluttering sound? and he will be sacrificing performance if he wants the pssssh sound?
how would he vent it to atmosphere?

Disconnect the big rubber hose from the BOV. But this is not a good idea.

oh no the big rubber hose is already unhooked. it only has the little one hooked up.

Is the BOV welded into place, or clamped onto a rubber hose? are you 100% sure the vacuum line is connected where it should be, sounds to me like the BOV isn't opening and closing properly with the boost. Also, perhaps a stupid question, but you never know, does he have a boost gauge hooked up, and if not, has he checked for any large boost leaks?

well there is no boost leaks or guage. ya the bov is welded onto where the old one was. no im not sure about the vacuum line, my friend just left town for a bit. Ill post up a picture of his set up when he gets back.

if nothings working, you might want to take it to a shop to get it checked out.

They probably took out one of the springs... if you are running low ass boost even at the softest setting its too tight.

My friend has a Skyline GTS-T the same BOV location and authentic Greddy Type S BOV and it makes a sound but you can barely hear it. It is vented to atmosphere.

I have a GTS-T turbocharger with the same BOV boosting stock 7psi and the setting is at Medium and it does make half swoosh and half whistle but I can also barely hear it inside the car.

I had to spend quite some time dialing the setting until I get that "sweet spot" where the BOV opens fully and does not open when charging.

I had it to Soft and it does not close fast enough. I had it on Hard and it does not or barely open at all.
