starting a US bank account

Do you mean an account in the states, or an account here in Canada with US funds?

All major banks in Calgary/Canada offer a US "savings" account of sorts in USD funds.

Go to any bank and open an account much as you would with any other account.

You can either go into a branch to open up a US savings/checking account. Or you can you do it online.

I have one with Royal Bank , just go talk to your bank , most big banks have US Fund Banks.
