If anyone can help, that'd be awesome...i got a 180sx thats got a bit of hesitation under full throttle. I'm not a huge turbo guy so take it easy on me but if anyone knows what the case might be i could use a few pointers. Also what are some common problems with redtop 180's...if anyone know. Thanks.

What year is the engine/model?

what exactly do you mean hesitation. does it bog? is your clutch slipping, are you boosting and then loosing power. you need a better description of whats happening

92 180sx with a stock redtop no mods at all. basically when i give it full throttle at any point while accelerating it bogs out, its not clutch slip though i know that.

Most likely but could also be the ignition system missing. Check/tighten all hose clamps and vacuum hoses on the hot side of the turbo. If they all check out you will want to look at your spark plugs and wires. Don't some of thos engines have coil on plug? If so could be a bad coil.

is it a really violent hesitation? like an almost bang noise as it suddenly bogs? Could be a stuck wastegate

If it drives around normally when not on boost, you may want to check your MAF sensor, and make sure it's reading correctly througout the rev range.

well the first thing i would do would be change your plugs, i had something like that and a new set of spark plugs fixed it right up

Try cleaning the MAF as well. Sensorkleen works awesome.

Check throughly the ignition coils themselves. Lots of older coils and it doesn't matter what make etc...They can develop a crack and cause the spark to arc over to the cylinder head, therefore causing a hesitation or a miss.

maybe u hit fuel cut and your ecu is in safe mode?

+1 on plugs, throw a new set in, replace your ignition wires and see if it fixes the problem.

If that doesn't do it, pressure test your intake for possible boost leaks.

I have a strong feeling it's spark blowout though, weak or fouled plugs that can't produce a large enough spark to sustain through boost.

excuse the language but F*** you guys are awesome this week i'll try the plugs and wires just cause that seems to be the easiest and who is it gonna hurt anyways to have new plugs. but i'm a little unsure about parts...is there a website with a list of stuff like oil filters, spark plugs, etc.? cause i'm almost due for a change also...once again this is really helpful guys (and maybe girls :poosie: ...or maybe not, whatever...) it's much appreciated.

You dont have plug wires the SR20 uses coilpacks. I can gaurantee it's your plugs if its going on only under full throttle. Either that or you TPS isnt adjusted correctly or not working. Do the plugs and gap them to something like .35 if your running a basic setup

i would say no, they do not fit for permanent use, i have used 1 or 2 for my yearly oil flush and the seal does not seem to fit properly, imo i would not use it for more than 2kms to ensure oil pressure

oil filter is a 15208-53J00 the guys at Brasso can help, just make sure you state the model of SR, redtop s13, s14 etc

^or just ask for a G20 filter from infinity like he said

oh and don't forget to ask for the copper crush washer for your drain plug!
