View Full Version : How do I find out if my car was in an accident?

I bought my S4 from the dealership for a couple reasons. 1.9% percent financing, plus a very thorough inspection and 2 extra years of warranty added on made it seem worth while to me for the couple extra grand I spent.

I had a suspension squeak and just brought it in, and they are telling my the front sway bar is fastened with bolts instead of rivets and it's going to be $780 to fix it plus $150 for an alignment. I asked them and they confirmed it should have been caught in the initial inspection.

I also noticed the drivers headlight sticks out to the side just a touch and the fender gap on one side of the hood is smaller than the other side, like the fender isn't properly aligned. I'm wondering if this car was in an accident.

A carfax is run when the do the certification, and they have to inform you if it's not clean.

I heard there is something better to check on the history of this car?

if there was no police report, you'd never know...

Take it to another mechanic for a second inspection, tell them specifically your concern, they'll check that area more thoroughly.

I've had to mechanics work on that area, phoned them both right now and neither one said they noticed anything... I guess if the guy just hit something on the road or a giant pot hole he could have ripped the sway mount off and bumped the bottom of the fender a bit and moved it...

yeah, carproof is better for canada, but still, if it wasn't reported, it wont be there.

I was looking at a car a few months ago.

Carfax was clean.

But I pulled a lien search in Alberta and it came up Salvaged.

Then I carproof it and it showed all the glorified colors.

So in Canada, Carproof searches all the provinces + the USA

Carfax = USA.

AMA will do it for you as in you have to be a member to get a CarProof from AMA (you still have to pay for it ).....Sorry about the confusion

Is there a way for NON ama members to obtain carproof?

(eg. extra cost)

Yes,
Carproof.ca
I believe it is actually cheaper then having AMA do it.

so is the dealership going to fix it for free since it should have been caught on the original inspection?
