Question about at fault

I was driving home on 80th ave ne going east. Turning left onto 52nd st to saddleridge. There was a guy coming in the opposite direction but had his left turn signal on and there was only 1 lane so I assumed that he was turning. He didn't seem to be going the speed limit but maybe he was but looked to be turning. He didn't and had to slam on his breaks to avoid hitting me. If we did crash who would have been at fault? Me for crossing into his lane while turning, or him for having his turn signal on. It wasn't really a close call by any means, but just wondered if it would have been an accident who would have been at fault.

from experience the person going straight has the right of way...even if the light is yellow.

That i what I was thinking as well, but wasn't sure with him signaling that he was turning.

He would just say he wasn't signaling. If you had a witness that he was, you might be able to share responsibility.
