For that doneness, lets say you have a porterhouse, or a really thick steak, can you eat it blue rare?

And for me, depending on type of steak, rare to medium rare

I used to only eat well-done but now I eat medium rare. My stomach can't handle rare that well.

I am assuming that is a black and blue...?

sooty on the outside and rare on the inside, cause we call that Pittsburgh style. Not like a Cajun because there are no spices on the outside.

Depends on the cut of meat, I think you should add blue to the poll.

On a good filet. blue is the only way to go. The shittier the cut gets, the more cooked it does IMO. The taste of the rare meat obviously gets worse the lower grade that you go, hence cook it out. But ya, blue rare or rare usually.

Medium rare all the way.

I voted rare, cause that is what I always order.

I prefer medium rear if it is cooked right, but haven't found too many places that can do it right. If I order rare, then there is more wiggle room for cook....cause I prefer rare over medium.

I almost never order steak when I am out...it just frustrating. But understandable in large restaurants. ..

Unless it's a steak house then they should know what they are doing...

The USDA recommends cooking steak to a minimum internal temperature of 145oF, which would be "Medium well done" according to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steak.

As for me, I'm a medium well guy. The thought of eating cold red meat would make me gag. I didn't grow up in Alberta, tho...

Medium. Man made fire to cook food. :poosie:

I'm also Greek, so the way we eat it a lot of the time Is pan fried until Medium-well with butter/Lemon/oregano to keep it moist.

Yup...another one for Blue Rare. Except at the Keg. Their "blue" is actually cold to the touch. I'll ask for their Rare which is equal to most's blue rare.

And no blue doesn't mean its black/crispy on the outside. I'm not a fond of that style.

What no blue rare option?

Sometimes I think I have vampire genes, because I love the taste of blood.

There isn't actually any blood in your steak, even if it's rare. If there is you'd better get a better butcher shop. :barf:

I was gonna say that but didnt wanna seem like a smart ass, when an animal is first killed and butchered, all the blood is drained from the animal, the red that you are seeing in steak is not blood the liquid, it is in fact myoglobin but less educated people assume when they see red in any meats its blood
