i recently had 17 inch wheels put on my dsm. i probably needed a wheel alignment before but after the wheels were installed there is a violent pull to either side (left or right) when coming to a stop. is this because the shop who installed my tires, didnt balance them?

its a wierd feel...it doesnt vibrate or anything just a hard pull.

just wondering if anyone had an idea about what may be going on...

When my car pulled, it was due to a worn out traction arm. tension rod, as they call it on a S13.

but isnt it strange that it didnt do that at all until the new wheels were installed or does that make sense?

yeah get them balanced. what a ghetto shop, installing tires without balancing.

ya i guess the tires were balanced.... the guy says i will probably need an alignment for sure because the offset and tire size were changed.

It's also the road. Crappy roads that are uneven and you're now running wider tires with more grip pulls you to the sides.
Check to see if the road has dips and what direction your tires pull to.

If you want to see if it's bad alignment, go to a very flat
road surface and see if it pulls there.

or did any of you stop to think that its the brakes? if the car is handling fine under all other conditions but braking why would he need an alignment or balance?

You just put on new tires, so the treads are still new and you are experiencing what is known as tracking. The tires should wear itself down over the next 2 weeks, and it will feel normal again.
