The drivers door in my e36 coupe won't lock, it locks but unlocks right away but the passenger door and trunk lock work normally?

Do you have an aftermarket remote start or alarm?

Actually, scratch that. The unlock/lock signal is uniform in these cars, so both doors/trunk get it all at once.

Faulty actuator or wire short to the actuator.

its probly ur door pins, check if one of them is still sending ground like the door is open, its a design problem on the factory locks, it wont let u lock the door with a door open as to prevent you from locking your keys in

Is there anything I can disconnect so I can lock my car in the meantime?

What year?

Older ones had a switch inside the door, pain in the ass to change and I believe NLA from BMW. I took my door apart and lubed the shit out of it. Fix the problem and has not come back in months.

Later ones have a switch in the hook that the door closes on, could try to reposition the latch or just replace it, don't drop the wire in the chassis while doing it though...

Most likely it's the switch that's at fault. Don't think you can do much as it also signals to drops the window and raises it during door opening/closing
