hi,

I have Phoenix Gold Xenon X12d2 subs and was wondering how far i should have the speaker cone from the car on the outside of the box and how much distance i need to give it from the magnet inside the box?

Thanks!

depends on the sub on how much cubic feet of airspace it needs

Subs rarely have more than 1.5" excursion, so keep it about an inch from anything inside the car, or by the grille (a good idea, BTW).

Inside, well, it cools itself by moving air through the voice coil. So the closer the rear of the sub is to the rear wall, the less efficiently it will cool, up to a point. Keep a few inches clearance and it should be okay.

If you don't know how to build a box properly, get ahold of somebody who does. There are a few guys on here who can help you out.
