Gay gay gay.
the problem with the new cougar is that it tries hard. it use to be an alternitive to the mustang but the newest one only uses the base mustang engine (v6) and is front wheel drive. its too toned down and doesnt have the spirit of the old ones.
also some times i feel beyond is full of fucktards that just like to say gay but dont actually know anything.:banghead:

Avoid these cars. I used to work at a Ford dealership when these first came out. The engines are pure horse shit. We'd see these and the Escapes come back ALL the time with blown/siezed engines, some with less then 15k on them. :nut:
Great car..... if your name is Fred or Barney Flintstone, and dont require an engine to get around.... but still gay.

QFT. I wouldn't be caught dead in a new one, but I remember trying to borrow my Dad's '69 Cougar convertible for my wedding, and he still wouldn't let me drive it.

Times change.
When i was a teenager, a nissan 240 was considered the pinnacle of chick cars, dudes wouldn't have been caught dead in one until "drifting" came to north america.

thats the razzi lip kit for it. not many of em around.
wow you guys are harsh
the new cougars cant be compared to the old ones, they are just too different.
as for the engines being bad. I have 280 000 on mine and it runs like its new the only repairs other then regular maintenace were the wheel bearings (250 000). its the 2.0 zetec not the 2.5 duratec. most people will do a 3L duratec swap as they can run on the same computer; there is a guy on newcougar.org that has built his to be able to produce around 600 hp too.
here's a couple pics of mine its going to be lowered at the end of this month to take care of the wheel gap. I will admit i was skeptical about the car at first, but driving it is a blast it handles very good and for the 130hp it has it goes pretty good (about 80% of its torque at 2000rpm)

Interesting note, I've ever only known 2 people that own this generation of the Cougar: one was a cute chick, the other was full-blown gay.

Actually, only the '67 through '73 were based on the mustang, and considered an "alternative" (though only 67 and 68 looked liked anything close to it). '74 to '97 were all pretty much the t-bird, then the last gen were :barf: based on the contour.
I miss my '67... it's still the best year IMO (only losing to '68 because of those god ugly side markers, though 68 does have better looking rear view mirror's)
IMO the latest gen aren't a "girls" car, but it's a daily driver... not one you want to pick up to modify, there's virtually no aftermarket support (plus I personally can't stand that front grill)

Different kicks for different people. You could argue the exact same for any car.

Correction: The Mercury Cougar is not gay compared to the Jetta.
The VW Jetta is way gayer. (Link) (http://www.gay.com/content/slideshow/?coll=290&order=2&navpath=/channels/style/auto/slideshow/

Take the advice from Andy Bernard on The Office.
"Its like a chick magnet, cause when you pull up to a stoplight and theres another X-Terra, there are always chicks driving it, so you immediately have something in common."

Way too gay, when I had my 1989 cougar it at least had a 5.0 that went pretty good.
