When I was a noob driver, I scraped the passenger side fender+bumper on the garage as I was backing out. Really retarded mistake, I know. Pic:

So I am just wondering how much do you think this would cost to fix? Or maybe it would be cheaper to just find a fender + front bumper from a junkyard or internet. I am pretty confident on working on my own car, but all the internet fenders/bumpers look like they are unpainted and I have no experience with automotive painting so I dunno. Do the junkyards even have cars from 2002?

This is for a 2002 Mazda Protege sedan.

'08

Go to an autobody shop and get a quote, or a dealership if you want to get ripped off.

That looks pretty bad
I got into a hit and run not too long ago at the MRC parking lot on my drivers side door and the rear quarter panel. Cost 1550 to fix.

At first I thought I could have just taken it to take the dents out and buff it out, but I guess it had to be taken apart and everything.

I assume yours will cost over 1000 to get fixed since its on two body panels. The fender and the bumper and you might need a new headlight. I would even say 2000 if you're unlucky.

Good luck dude

Basic paint for a panel is about $350~ Plus the bodywork on both panels, and removing the bumper. Don't know if the headlight is scratched or not.

Easy 1K.

Thanks for the replies.

So I think I can probably get the fender and bumper off the internet for <$300 and I could probably install it myself. But the parts will need to be primed and painted.

I dont have the experience or paint gun required to paint these two parts, so where and how much do you guys think it will cost to get the parts primed, painted, and clear coated?

If anyone wants to paint these parts for me, let me know what your asking price is.

Headlight is fine btw.

Is there a dent in it? I can't tell by the pix you took.

You really don't want to get new panels. At least not as cost saving measure. Its sounds like it would be cheaper when you think that a fender is only around $200-$300. But then you have to add the cost changing the fender, and painting the inside, and now you would have to blend the door, especially on a silver color. That would involve taking the trim off the door as well.

It would be cheaper, and look better if you just had the fender repaired.

And buying a used, or even new panel, and then shipping it, chance are good they is going to be dent in it, and then you would have to fix that one too.

Hope that helps.

Yea, its a dent.

The new bumpers and fenders are all new oem matching replacements, they only need to be painted. Heck, I might even get an aftermarket bumper as long as it doesnt look too ricey.

I just finish watching a bumper painting series on expertvillage and it looks simple enough. I also found a great site to buy the paint:

www.paintscratch.com

All I need is the basecoat, clearcoat, primer, and rubbing compound right? One can covers 6 sq ft...so how many cans do you guys think Ill need?
