Anyone stayed here before?

The lady and I are looking at going early in Sept (her pick) - is it really worth four hundred a night?

If not, please mention why - and new recommendations are appreciated!

Cheers

very nice stay, try to get one of the cabins with fire-place if you can do so

the lodge resturant has many game meats on the menu to try

there are outside hot tubs for use too

the long trail hike is 'really' long, but there is the shorter trail around lake also

try calling the banff hotel 800 reservations line, they usually can get you package deals 3 nights for 2, etc

PS
sent you reply on PM, re: HIDs

I stayed there a couple of winters ago.

Absolutely freaking beautiful....

From what I remember;

Most of the cabins are 4 plex's and all have king sized beds and fireplaces and balcony's that overlook the lake.

They will come and light the fire for you if you want. Extra firewood just outside your door.

You park a km or so away and take a shuttle to the lodge.

You walk everywhere after that.

No tv's in the room. A phone if you need it.

Top notch food at the lodge. As stated previously a good selection of game meats available.

Awesome games room on the top floor to relax, again by a big fireplace, next to a snooker table you could play hockey on....

400 / night is a bit pricy but iof its a special occasion you will never forget it.

12 thumbs up from me.........

It's not a bad place but for the money there's better. The parking situation is sketchy though, you have to park your car in the main parking lot and get on a shuttle that takes you up. The place is out of the way but you never know.

Went there twice .... last 2 work christmas parties were there!! Awsome place!! 400 is a bit pricy, maybe its busy season? Very quiet, and beautiful. I love the fact that cell phones dont work there and there is absolutely NO traffic noise since no cars are allowed there .. you can take the shuttle at any time of the day if you want to go back to your car for some reason.

+1 for me

Can you list some of those? Wouldn't mind looking into some of them?

why not stay at the Mount Assiniboine Lodge?

It's a little pricy, since you take a chopper in. $600 per night plus $500 for the chopper round trip for a couple.

sounds reasonable, right?

About as reasonable as a daily $95.00 dollar lunch - drinks excluded of course.

Is early September part of the hotel high season?

We're planning for going 3-4 nights, I'll pass on anything more than $400.

I'm not really into these kind of get aways so I couldn't really tell you more but for the price we paid for the emerald i would never go back. It was my wife's idea to go to that place. We always go to the delta in kananaskis for christmas and it aint too bad there if your looking for a nature get away. The delta is completely different from the emerald though. It's still kinda seluded but they have way more to offer there.

And HIDStop if your looking for a 3-4 day get away you should definately check out the delta, there will be lot's more to do.

The place has gone down hill. We've been there several times over the past few years. Our last 2 visits have been terrible. We wont be going back unless we hear that things improved.

I dont know if theres been problems with ownership and management but the quality of service has gone down hill. The location is still second to none but its definitely no longer offers top notch service. My guess is theyve also been impacted by the boom in Alberta and BC and are having difficulty attracting and retaining experienced staff.

I wont go into details. Ive posted my review on tripadvisor. Feel free to read through all the reviews and make your own opinion if you want to try it for yourself or not.

One thing I will add, is that the way some of the cabins are setup, the smaller/lower priced rooms are on the top level. Depending what your needs are, its better to get the cheaper room and not have people above you.
