I would love to build one of these to go fast, and handle, being 4WD, with a full time transfer case, I think it could be done also.

I remember hearing those things were a bear to maintain; they needed very specific fluids and switching into 4WD mode takes a long time and is tricky.
That said, if you can find one that isn't rusted out (and have a lot of spare cash to sink into it), it seems worthwhile. I've always liked the looks of them, but would definitely rather have a Scooby.

Actually, not very specific fluids, and doesn't take more than a second or two to change inte 4WD, and the early ones were permanent AWD
