So i'm part of demonoid, and ive been rather conservative with my downloading (maybe 80 megs so far) because I'm not 100% sure how i can make my files shareable. If i wanted to share a movie or some songs how do i go about making those file(s) torrentable for people to share from me?

Thanks guys!

Uploading? whats that? I've heard of torrents and downloaded more than i can count... but actualy creating your own torrent? unheard of :)

Don't these things just magically appear on btjunkie and mininova?

Another question, using Azureus , what port should i use? my downloads are only 20k/sec if LUCKY. When i had telus i had the port the same and was getting 80-120k /sec.

Maybe you're being throttled by your ISP or the seeders aren't allowing for faster speeds.

try using some unsigned port numbers like 44819-45053 instead of the normal bit torrent ports and see if it makes a difference

1). First grab a copy of: http://www.utorrent.com/

2). Then enable encryption in the options menu.

3). Limit your upload speed to 20kb/s

4). Check to see if the port is forwarded correctly by using the built in tester.

If you are still having issues at that point then something is wrong with either your cable line or the actual torrent.

I'm on utorrent, and I do have to keep my upload speed throttled back or it'll start to slow down the downloads as well.
the sweet spot for me is around 30 k, and I am on the Shaw "lite" internet.

Another question regarding torrenting, if i wanted to share something I have downloaded from say demonoid (support the uploading) do I just leave Vuze/Azureus running?

There is no reason to limit your upload, unless you don't feel like giving back and are just a leech. Other than a legit reason being you want to play a game and have your b/w available, but then you should close utorrent.

With shaw i was able to pull down ~500 kb/s, that was just regular shaw. With telus I'm getting like ~250 kb/s max, god i hate dsl but yeahhh with utorrent you can just run the port checker to see if the right port is open.
