Just got me car, and my cousin advised me not to go past the red line when I first get the car until after 3000 miles, but I did it the second day?

Will anything happen, like the engine is already screwed up? Thanks guys.

Google "Hard break-in"

^ as per above

Now go do it again, but this time downshift all the way down to idle......thus using engine compression to seal the rings.

I wouldnt recommend redlining it though.

(again, only if you subscribe to the 'hard break-in' belief - and make sure your engine is properly warmed up)

Going up to redline briefly won't hurt anything. It's sustained usage over the RPM break-in limit that will really hurt things. Read your owners manual, it has the manufacture's recommended break-in instructions.

I personally would not do the "hard break-in" on a daily driver.

I don't think I would ever go past the redline. It's there for a reason, and the power drops off rapidly past the redline.
