The title says it....Top 25 Lemon Cars. Information was compiled by US federal government and released. However, it doesn't apply to models that have changed since 2001. Ford Escape was top on the list! No Mercedes made the list.

thats quite revealing. Who'da thunk, honda civic?

If this list was revised for after 2001, the Honda Civic would have a higher number.

You wouldn't believe how many warranty jobs we get for the front struts going (after one year), and paint peeling on the grille.

Mercedes must have dodged it because most of their models have been recently revised.. my benz has the quality of an american car so far.

JD Power and Associates shows Mercedes reliability to now be below average (the mean reliability of all manufacturers) and my experience has definitely confirmed this.

I see a Jeep is way up there..I had a mad lemon of a Jeep. Engine mounts rusted away after 5 years.. :dunno:

That's cause the owners are too embarrased to share the truth.

What I meant when I said that was that I was in shock that Mercedes didn't make the list. I would've thought that with the C240, and C230 that those cars would've been up there. But like E36M3 said the list is for cars up to 2001 so not enough data was compiled.

Why would they be embarassed to share the truth? :dunno: That's one of the main topics of discussion on the Benz forums.

I think it may have something to do with the fact that MB didnt sell nearly as many cars as honda or ford did. It would mean the list is fundimentally flawed though.

is this ratio a percentage?

% = #of complaints / #of vehicle sold

or is this all the complaints that came in for a vehicle?

"The complaint index is based on a ratio of the number of complaints for each vehicle to the sales of that vehicle"

Hmm..."based on" doesn't sound too definitive to me :dunno: . I'm also wondering about the legitimacy of the complaints (ie, genuine complaints vs. dumb people who don't know better and think something is wrong). You could have a bunch of people complaining that their SUV is loud and eats too much gas compared to a car and bring it in for warranty (believe me, I've seen it happen).

Each year, thousands of Americans call their government to register complaints about their vehicles.
The federal government collects this information but has never released it to the general public.

So this list is only based on people who CALL THE GOVERNMENT to complain?

"Hey there's something wrong with my car, let's call the government."

Maybe not so representative of the population? :dunno:

Remember, this is for LEMONS, cars that get bought back because of the Lemon Law. It's not a good indication of vehicle quality. People use the Lemon Law when their cars are in the shop over and over again for the same problem, and the dealership can not fix it. This list probably shows more of service quality than vehicle quality.

We don't have lemon laws in Canada. Basically, if your car is in the shop for over 30 days in a 90 day period for the same problem (numbers differ state to state), you can use the lemon law to get the manufacturer to buy back the vehicle, or give you a new one.

Yup, my mom's '01 1.7 EL, just got all of its shocks replaced, but this is after they replaced leaking shocks.
It doesnt surprise me that this would cause the car to make the list.

No man, as I said in my previous post. My mom has a 01 Acura 1.7el, its the same as the civic, but fancier... and she has had so many damn problems with the suspension, mainly the shocks.

One other problem, which Acura tried to fix, was the springs that hold the trunk up were too weak, and it never stayed open... So now, when you press the button to open the trunk it just about flies off the hinges. I think if I really tried, I could decapitate someone with that trunk...

meh glad to see 300s arent on that, given how expensive shit is for these cars, and alternators on these go like once a year,

I was making note that there was no Nissans on the list. But then I read someone already pointed out.

Worth noting twice. NO NISSANS on the LIST!

Well...mine all work fine. No complaints.

You must be doing something wrong then. My 93 300ZXTT is still on its original alternator.

You wouldn't be missing the lower splash shield by any chance, would you?
