Would it be worth it? Ive been looking on www.tradecarview.com and there some nice E36's for sale for cheap with low miles. I don't know much about importing or anything, so anykind of information is helpful. Also anyother sites anyone knows where i could browse japanese stock would be great!

if you're looking at trade car, just double the estimated price to see how much it would cost landed with all fees paid.
on another note: it seems to me all the e36's in Japan are a) automatic 2) powerless 3) badged as aplina or m3

thats what I like about tradecar, you can narrow your search down to MT, and displacement. Take off the badging and you could have a nice low mileage BMW :)
