I'm dealing with about .5 cu ft of space for subwoofer and box space under the back seat of my 05 Ram. What is the best shallow mount subwoofer for this space? It has to be a 10" and I am after good sound quality.

I was planning on spending $400 max for one sub.

Lanzar? for real.. I thought they were complete trash.. I haven't even heard that name in yrs. eD had some small subs out, 7 or 8".. You could prob make a 10 work though.

or I just found these alpines that only require .5 cu ft:
http://www.crutchfieldcanada.com/Alpine_Type_R_SWR_1022D_10_Dual_2_ohm_Component_S_p/500swr1022.htm
what do you think of those. What kind of throw would they have? My back seat would be only like 1" above this sub

They used to make good stuff, the Optidrive series I really liked.
Their Heritage line up of speakers is an excellent bang for the buck. Although their amps now are crap. The subs aren't too much better. :dunno:

Sxtasy, That Alpine sub is quite deep, there is no way that'll fit if you require a shallow mount box.

I'd go with the JL that the above poster recommended.

clarion have had shollow mounts for years. I think they are around $100 - 300Wrms, 3" depth, 0.5 cu-ft recommended sealed box size - seems what your looking for

posting on my gf's account... The truck is a crew cab. I like the looks of that jl sub, however I can only fit a 10" because of the limited diameter space I am working with. Those clarions any good?

I just tried out an MTX TT65 10" in my Ford Escape. It hits pretty good, even in a large cabin area, and it does sound amazing. They recommend .8 cu ft, but I put it into a .5 box I had from my old Boston sub, and it does very well. I would definetly recommend it, and it is only 3" deep.

Comparing the clarions to the JL is a waste of your time. The clarions sound like ass. They bottom out and distort at pretty high levels.
The TW5 is brand new and as said before is only in the 13".
Try looking at the JLW1. reccomended enclosure is 0.625 cu. ft. so you should be able to squeeze her in there. In this range you'd be comparing to the Type S. The W1 has a bit of a tighter response to it and about the same range.
The Alpine Type S has been redesigned in the last few years and they mount fairly shallow and I've put a few of these under truck seats. These hit deeper, harder and cleaner than the clarion although still not gonna compare to say a JLW3 or even the W1.
The clarion doesn't even compare.
The benefit with the JLW1 is that you can run about half the power through it as the Type S and it'll sound better...

Take a look, hope that helps

I forgot about Ed subs. I was thinking about mainstream. Check out one of these.

or they also have the 9".

My friend had 2-7" in his van under the middle seat and they were great. A clean and hard hitting sub with the lows and the response that you can expect from a small package.

Cheers!

I have the Tang Bang version of that ED SQ10 shallow mount sub from Partsexpress. Basically the same sub, but one company apparently stole the design from the over. Mine is in a .6cu.ft sealed box and it hits very low and clean with only 150wrms. Very efficient too and is capable of being more loud than I need it to. Dont expect it to set off any car alarms though.
