Where would you buy a replacement hd for a laptop? Mine is just out of warranty and died. It's an acer 5570, 160gb. I don't care what goes back in it as long as it fits and works, it's mainly just my tuning laptop for the car. :bullshit:

Any computer store like Memory Express, you might want to go for higher speed (3600/5400/7200rpm??) versus size, it'll make a noticeable difference in snappiness.

Here... (http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/Computers(ME)/ComputerComponents(ME)/HardDrives(ME)/NotebookHardDrives(ME)/Default.aspx) tell them your laptop's model# and they will know what to hook you up with. It is one screw but they can probably swap it for you as well.

I think I have it sorted out.. Any SATA 2.5 HDD will fit a laptop I was told.. I'll go with a 7200, just cause. It was a 160, I only ever used maybe 30-40 of it though. Since I have another 900gigs here at the desktop.

Sounds good

Personally I'd go for this one (http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX17699(ME).aspx), Seagate ftw :D

sigelectronics had the trekstor 320gb for 99+7.99 shipping (1yr warranty)
and simpletech 320s for 129 (2 year warranty)
next place to try is costco (not sure, but didn't they have a 1 year no-hassles warranty?)
the above are all externals, you can consider that as a bonus if you're replacing your's

the only reason i'd get a seagate internal is for the warranty, not quite sure about benchmarks tho

note that 7200rpm ones are going to suck your battery quick, unless you got the one that i mentioned from some other thread, a 7200rpm one that sucks power like a 5400rpm one. another member got it and so far so good ($$$ tho)

and make sure it's SATA yourself, unless it was someone working at memX or alike

I have the Hitachi Travelstar 7200 200gb HD that I swapped my 7200 100gb factory drive in my MBP when it got nearly full.

Great drive!

Cool, I hardly ever have it unplugged. Even in the car I have an outlet for it. This is my second western digital drive to live a very short life, I will be avoiding that name from now on.

How easy was it to do this swap?

Few screws and 5 mins or so for mine. I ended up getting the 160gb 7200 rpm seagate. Back up and running anyways. Not much time on it to notice any difference, besides that it turns on. :)

if you have an iphone or a second computer, follow the you-tube how tos....it's easy...just a lot of screw removal and gentle removal of the top cover...
