View Full Version : 400,000 milestone! 56K no!

I guess this thread is for those who appreciate the longevity of cars! Or like looking at a relic so to speak!

Well It happened, my Legend rolled over 400,000km! As a testament to Honda quality (come on out fanboys!) it still drives very smooth with excellent responsiveness.

I was fortunate to purchase the car who's second owner (who had it for majority of its time) who provided every receipt for every service since he had driven it off the showroom floor of a specialty dealership in Vancouver. In his words he remembered seeing it mid 1998 online, flew out, and brought it back that same weekend. Most of the service had been done at the Acura dealership throughout its life.

It is interesting to note that it is on its Original Engine (Head Gaskets Included), and had its original clutch until about a month ago.

To celebrate the 400 - I did some maintenance and a good clean up including a full 4-step wax (clay, clean, polish, wax), and some interior detailing with Zaino Z10, 303 Aerospace, Back to Black, and Lexol Cleaner.

Heres to 500k! I hope you enjoy the pics!

black13: I know hey! People really start to loose respect for their cars after they reach a certain value or year. Thanks!

ToastiER: The manual is pretty rare. I have to replace my shift knob with the factory one, it looks really high in the picture (like a tractor), but the factory ones are almost impossible to find!

Foreign2: I guess worth to the right person! Thanks!

Supa Dexta: haha, funny you should ask, I figure 600km to 60L means that it has consumed about 40,000 Litres of fuel. I would average out premium since new to be around $0.70, so I guess about 28k, your estimate is pretty close on! I have computerized all the records I have had on the car (since 1998), and it comes out to be $12,654 over the the past 10 years, I think thats about average.

GQBalla: I was also surprised about the clutch, I bet if I didn't learn standard on it - it would still be going.

Senseiz: Thanks! Yes, definitely, the rock chips are plentiful! The car could use some paint. Its pretty good in the winter with some Hakkis and the TCS.

badatusrnames: haha possibly, thats allot of driving though, a couple times to the moon and back! lol Thanks!

legendboy: Thanks - Haha, make true to the name! There are some gorgeous rust free 6-speeds in the states for a very reasonable price - I would be happy to transport it for you!

lbrowne: Thanks, yeah its actually Front Wheel Drive. Its a longitudinal mounted engine so I can see why you thought that. Supposedly it is to create the optimal weight distribution for a FWD car.

us722: Unfortunately, yes. Calgary winters are very harsh on cars, near the fenders it is coming in. Its kind of sad really, hopefully I can fix it in the next couple of weeks. The car could use a repaint really.

Moe Man: I bet the cab driver is quite impressed as well - I will be sure to send you a message when I catch up.

Its a transverse mounted engine

Longitudinal. Transverse is what everyone else (Except Audi and Chrysler LH) has.

my daytona made it to 320,000 kms on the original engine, not in as good shape as your acura though

but I was running 20psi boost on it too, probably could have lasted longer if I left it stock I bought the car at 270,000.

Well I have all of the service history in the last 10 years documented in a spreadsheet. Things that are not original/not wear items are - the stereo/alarm (changed by choice), HID's, VSS (changed twice!), Door Actuator, Master Brake Cylinder, a few minor suspension/steering components, Heater Assembly, Right Pass Axle.

Not to bad I think!

rebuilt how many times?

0 times, taxi commission doesnt let them. if the car has a major problem like engine failure it gets taken off the road. its not worth rebuilding it, cheaper to buy a new taxi.

oh and it was accually very clean. it has to be clean for it to stay on the road.

i am not hating just saying that it is not a MILESTONE!
dont 90% of you guys on here drive hondas? dont 90% of you guys know that it is common to see a honda go up to 400 000km?
so where is the MILESTONE?

i work around cars so it is not uncommon to see some with that many km. if i were to make a post everytime i saw a car with 400 000km, beyond would have to update the servers.

my ls400 is almost 550,000 km and still runs ultra quiet and still has all of its power.

with a ford going that high its a hit and miss. plus ride quality is down 50 percent after the first 100,000.

I am questioning your taxi commission comment as the decision to do a rebuild would be the prerogative of the individual agency, not the commission - the commission simply hands out licenses per my source at the taxi commission.

I am thoroughly impressed with your taxi cab with such a formidable mileage. I am also happy for you that you see so many cars with high mileage and with that being said I am sure if you posted each one beyond.ca's servers will be just fine and would not require an upgrade (not “update”)

I personally don't know anyone who has a car with such a high mileage, but I thought it was cool - so I posted. I find it strange that this would be an irritant you.

If it helps, considering your "90%/90%" statement, think of it as a post for the other 10%/10% of beyond, which given the current membership is 478 people.

Moe, if you wish to continue this conversation please feel free to PM me.

400,000kms! Very clean for sure! Looks right off the showroom floor!

I had a 97 Crown vic with 540,000 all original. used to be a cop car, then a taxi, then mine. Even came with the rates sticker on the window, taxi light, and all the wiring for the cop megaphone and lights!

Yeah 400K really isn't a milestone. BUT I think the point is is that your car has 400K and it looks mint!

My old Grand Marquis had 450K on it, BUT it spun a bearing at 300K... and when I got rid of it it was still running, it just needed a whole new brake system and wasn't worth the money. Thing was indestructable!

Nice car. My brother bought one new and really liked it right up to the time a woman T boned him on the 401 in Toronto. The car did its job though and no one was hurt but the car was crushed. Years later he still complains that he doesn't like what he has as much as that car. (Mercedes SUV and Jag)
