grocery store threats?

hey guys, my friend is getting a job at a local Safeway and it just made me think of what another friend had told me.

Apparently the tropical fruit that Safeway imports comes in shipments in crates. In those crates they sometimes find tropical bugs (like scorpions and poisonous spiders)

is this a rumor or true?
insight and opinion?

furthermore, anybody hiring, i would hate to see my buddy wind up at Safeway... he just got out of high school and graduated with outstanding honors =)

When i was in university, i worked at a grocery store. We'd find all kind of shit in the bananas. Black window once, had the hourglass on it and everything.

I never saw anything like that when I worked there in produce. The odd small spider on occasion.

Tell him to aim higher. I worked at Safeway after graduation and vowed to make something of myself after working with the looney lifers.

Been a long time since I worked at the IGA, but I do remember getting a couple smaller tarantulas in the bananas once. It was pretty sweet.

when i worked at Co-op in high school we got a small lizard in the produce... we caught it and kept it in a little cage in the back room for a couple months...

Yeah buddy here is a manager at the wholesale club and they find big ass spiders and shit in produce relatively routinely but they are usually dead from transit.

I worked in produce for 3 years and found my share of spiders in bananas, grapes and oranges, lots of worms, snails and assorted bugs in lettuce... It happens.

I worked at Safeway for a summer and saw a bunch of spiders and we found this realy huge water beetle thing once also.

^^^ Way back in high school, I worked in the photo/audio section, and my friend worked in the fruits/veg area, he was
always showing me the weird bugs and shit that came over on fruits.

More recently we found a lizard when we got our groceries home, it was already dead though.

i worked produce at the wholesale club for a year after HS, didn't see anything interesting.

Anything that was in there would be dead, it's all used to hot climates, and gets shipped in reefers for days, nothing from that hot climate would survive through that

I worked at Sobeys when i was 16 and we found several black widow spiders in grapes. Once we found a big ass banana spider in one of the crates, that thing was HUGE! zoo staff came and picked it up.

Worst I heard while working at an IGA.. friend in the Produce department found a Pee Jug! LOL

A few spiders and praying mantesis as well... fairly regular occurance although most were dead.

^^ haha i worked at sobeys in grade 9 and all i did was take 5 hour breaks on a 6 hour shift and eat/drink shit out of the freezers. it was so slack and and i got free food and i didn't get sucked into working there for 25+ years because i got fired after the summer

People find spiders in their grapes all the time. I have yet to, and I think it would be kinda cool if you werent in the process of eating the grapes.
