The average Canadian consumer is forced to accept cell phone plans that are unfair and over priced.

Yes, I'm sure Rogers held a gun to your head and forced you to buy that iPhone, you poor sod.

I think the real root of the problem is Canada's archaic outdated wireless pricing and plans.

Meh there are already other phones out there that have better features than the iphone. The only thing that bothers me is the price they are charging for data transfer over their 3g network, now I have a very good understanding of how their system works and its absolutely disgusting that they can get away with what they do. Honestly it probably costs these guys $5 a month to provide you with cell service and ive had bills ranging from $60-130 these last few months. To put it into perspective with the text message billing rate it would cost $25,000 to transfer a mp3.

And then you go look at the yankees and they can get unlimited data transfer for $50 a month. Now if we could get that up here then buying a iphone or something comparable would make sense, rather than $100 for 100mb transfer.

Rumors are out there that Apple is pissed off with the negative publicity that Rogers has gathered and has significantly scaled back 3G iPhones headed for Canada...

Oh, I completely agree that our service providers are totally out to lunch, but I found the petition overly dramatic in that they seem to think they were forced to buy an iPhone for one reason or another.

Being over dramatic helps rally the troops, if they were realistic about what they were actually saying it wouldnt light the fire in the belly of all the people who say they "wont" buy the iphone, but i bet you 20,000 of the votes are repeat voters, AND... lots of people that signed that are probably upset now that there is less stock and lower likelihood of getting on at launch

The only reason I can think of that Rogers cannot do unlimited data is due to lack of infrastructure in Canada.

Hosting and network services are way cheaper in US than Canada for the same reason. I don't think we'll ever see unlimited but I also don't see why it need to be that expensive.

IMO, $10/GB is fair.

I don't think the data plans are the largest issue so much as the starting $60 dollar package with very little minutes and only 100 text messages. Especially if that includes text notifications for missed calls notification. And some common services are not included. A decent plan with wanted services is going to cost you ~105/month and thats with moderated use of the phone.

Agreed.. the packages for the iphone are a complete joke.

I don't think the phone itself is over the top expensive.. but the plans are just terrible

.. just my 2 cents.

i can only coment on TELUS data plans, but if you don't NEED the iPhone (read: if your ok with not following fads), pick up a blackberry curve. Telus has UNLIMITED data plans that are $30 a month....or even cheaper, if you just want email, unlimited email is $15 a month and the web browser is blocked.....
