Hi all,
my younger brother was convicted of driving with no insurance last year. Now insurance company will insure him for $10,000 a year. My question is this, how long will it take before he gets a normal insurance rate again?
I drive him everywhere and it's a pain for me.

Depending on his driving history it could take anywhere from 3-6 years before his rates comes down. Insurance will treat you basically start from the bottom of the list, starting fresh as a new driver. With no history to back you up, they basically jack up your insurance rate. They also look at your past history and gauge what you deserve.

Like what everyone said, lesson learned.

IF (and that's a pretty big if) the methods are the same in Ontario as they are here in Alberta, it will only take three years to come off his record. With that said, I kind of doubt that will be the case simply because in Alberta, a conviction of Driving Without Insurance doesn't even affect your ratings. A speeding ticket hurts you worse here.

I know he's your brother, but maybe the first step in the learning process for him is taking the bus. His conviction for being an idiot isn't your problem.

(I say this because you say you drive him EVERYWHERE. The occasional chaffeur job, no problem. But it seems to be past that stage)

Was it just a no insurance conviction?

or are his rates crazy high because of all the other tickets that came along with that no insurance conviction.

(eg: Speeeding, Collision at fault, stunting, racing, general douchebaggery... any one of those? or all of the above?)
