They're not old enough yet.

As for this whole thing, Toyota wanted to increase GM's presence in Japan?

In 1996, Japanese Toyota dealers began stocking the Toyota Cavalier, a badge-engineered version of the Chevrolet Cavalier. Although Toyota executives saw it as a means to expand GM's presence in Japan, dealers weren't enthused.
Now I'm no business major, but how does that make sense? Other then to show Japan how shitty j-bodys were?

GM and toyota are fairly close buddies and share some info. Prime example is the toyota matrix / Pontiac Vibe. would not surprise me to find out that Toyota contracted GM to make these to fill a niche market in Japan, that would cost too much for Toyota to bring something into full production.

As part of a wider effort to avoid additional restrictions on exports to the US, the third generation model was briefly sold in Japan by Toyota under an agreement with GM, badged as the Toyota Cavalier.

It was basically a move by Toyota to protect themselves from American protectionism, as basically the Americans might get pissed about the fact that Japanese auto makers have a huge market share in America in comparison to the market share for American vehicles in Japan.

Japanese automakers have even seriously spoken about increasing the prices of their vehicles in the US in order to decrease their market share (but keep revenue the same) and help sales of lower priced American vehicles in order to prevent the American government from stepping in and putting restrictions on Japanese companies. Basically, it isn't in the best interests of Japanese automakers to succeed too much at the expense of the big three due to fears of American protectionism.

^^ all it shows is a joint venture (presumably the matrix/vibe) it doesnt show any ownership... and over 10 percent would be on there.

Funny isn't it? I believe the Gallardo's AWD system is strongly derived from them.

The fact that VW owns Lambo has been a good thing for the brand, allot of their cars are much more drivable/practical than their 80's and prior cars.

Yes, cause people drive a Lambo for practicality :nut: The countach will remain as the epitomy of Lamborghinis IMO

only small parts...(10 and 8 percent respectively)GM used to own a chuck of Subaru, and Chrysler used to own Mitsubishi too. the Evo and the SRT-4 have a very similar engine. (same block)

Yeah I had seen it a few months ago and just did a google search for "automaker ownership chart"

Definitely a cool chart that shows how "small" such a large industry is...

The aftermarket TRD Cavalier body kit on this page (http://members.shaw.ca/toyota_cavalier/page3/page3.html) is strange.

I don't know if it improves the look of the car, or makes it worse.

Doesn't look great...but definately really good for a cavalier.
