I have a USB device that needs a driver to operate properly. I tried to install it last night but it couldnt find the driver.

So at work I called the company and they sent me the driver files, i came home, plugged it in and now it wont prompt for me to install the drivers!

I have tried going into the hardware manager and alter it but it isnt working as it is only showing me USB rootkeys and the such.

btw it is XP running dual boot on a mac.

How do I force XP to prompt me for new drivers

Go to device manager and click "redetect new hardware" or something like that. Or the device will show up with Yellow icon, right click on that and go update driver

Do what eblend said, but instead delete the usb device, make sure your device is plugged in then scan for hardware changes, by right clicking your PC name and then manually install the drivers.

^^ see it just shows the generic drivers. It doesnt actually show/say that anything is connected.

The sound that is played when you connect a USB doesnt play when I connect this anymore :( :banghead:

omg, there is a power switch on the usb key that doesnt control the power to the key (the light is on when you plug it in) but it controls the ecu so it wont communicate unless you turn the write access on

sorry :nut:

In Cosworth's defence, when was the last time you saw a connection switch on a USB key?

Haha I'm just bugging him. We actually hang out on occasion. I've even seen the USB thing he's talking about and its messed up. A strange piece of work.
