Why buy an SLR now? I like it, but its not the looker the last gen SL was. Still pretty neat.

LOL $320,000 Mercedes thats not even an exotic. Guys just wait a year and you'll get it for $180,000 or two years at $120,000. Everyone knows that SL prices drop harder than rocks.

Who ever is considering a Scuderia or an LP640 would not consider a SL65 unless there on that cook crack.

Oh god, thats one of my favorite looking cars ever.... I love the facelifted SL's. That being said SL's have always been one of the most beautiful cars out there - I wanted to buy a 450SL a little while back but they are really holding/gaining value.

Yes, all the SL's that have been made up to this point. But this is a Black Series, so I'm willing to guess it will hold some value due to its rarity.

One of the few usable cars out of Italy. Retarded AMGs and SLRs, you wanna drive it all the time. Comfy, fast as hell, and as agressive as EK 2.0 when a new chick joins beyond... best of all worlds.

Really though you can get that stuff in a vehicle like an Acura TL or even a fully loaded Accord with leather but many will pass on that just for the BMW badge.

Have you ever been in a real luxury car? There is a pretty noticeable difference between an accord and a benz.

This car is absolutely perfect. The new headlights are LIGHT YEARS cooler in person than the old tired W210, W208/W203/W209/W211/W215 (get where I am going with this) headlight style.

This is no regular SL and will not be depreciating like the common R230.

I guess the problem is the definition of real luxury car. Is a Nissan parts bin car like the G35, G37 count or Lexus IS, Acura TL, etc a real luxury car? They all have the same creature comforts.

I've sat in a 325 but it didn't blow me away or anything so is that a real luxury car or do you have to go up to the 6 series? As far as MB's go I haven't sat in a newer one but since nobody buys them much any more who cares. My point is that 'real luxury' car is not defined. Judging by what you drive I think I'm having this discussion with the wrong person lol.

the other two are luxury but if i was a high-roller... not a lot better than an S-Class or even higher a Maybach

Go to Mercedes and sit in a 600 or AMG model. The quality of the materials, power and refinement in most Benz automobiles are much better than anything most other automakers have, unless you're comparing a base c-class or something of the sort.

So luxury is RWD? AFAIK which wheels are being powered doesn't matter when it comes to comfort & luxury. I just don't see what puts Merc & BMW higher than others on the list, other than the badge.

I have sat in a couple higher-end models before, I wasn't all that impressed. The interior panel fitment was even bordering on atrocious in a couple of them. You mentioned power too, that doesn't have anything to do with luxury, I mean it's nice :D but it's not luxurious.

But to continue straying off topic, G35, BMW 325, same class of car. Some people buy the BMW because it handles better, some people buy the G35 or Accord cuz it's the same car and they don't give a crap about handling. WTF is your point?

No it's not. The crossfire is built on the OLD slk platform.

ZorroAMG
07-14-2008, 01:50 PM
Um, ignoramus, the crossfire is built on the OLD SLK platform. When MB was with Chrysler and MB changed the chassis, they gave them the old chassis.

Learn, THEN type.

Eleanor
07-14-2008, 01:58 PM
It doesn't matter, the same chassis that went on an SLK, went on a Crossfire. The same chassis that's under the Avalon is on the LS, :whocares: It's like saying that a GT-R is an Altima cause they share the same engine.

I'm not saying that Mercedes/BMW is bad, I'm just saying I don't see why people are convinced that it's not luxury unless it has a Tri-Star or blue and white circle on the front :nut:

Stop pushing the Jap brands until they actually make a competitor to the following:

Luxury is not all about the amenities but it's also about what you expect. RWD is expected when you're spending X amount of money. better materials are also expected. As well as status. "expected" meaning some luxurious cars come with little to no luxury.

It will appeal to a very small group of benz fanboys, but I don't really understand it. For the same money you can get a Ferrari 599 and there will not be any comparison.

It will be ridiculous though.. makes the regular SL65 with the Renntech upgrades seem like a massive bargain though.

Positive. I found a CLK63 BS for cheaper than the SL65 that I was looking at. No importing into Canada though, otherwise I'd be rocking one right now instead of my M3.

The difference is after a year or 2, the benz depreciates hard, which makes it potentially affordable for me lol. Anyone who buys any 65 new isn't very bright lol.
