MacBook - good time to buy?

wanted to know if now is a good time to buy a Macbook?

with their deal to get a ipod touch 8gb for free? or will there be changes / price drops?

just buy one now, if there are changes they wont be crazy (2.4ghz vs. 2.5) that prob wont happen anyways, major changes happen after the promo anyways, sept-oct time frame....good deal now with the ipod touch (with 2.0 firmware too)

This macbook seems to have been around for a long time. Is there any suspected new version coming up (major design change or something)

^^the most talked about is the total overhaul from plastic to aluminium, there is some evidence for this for a macbook Pro but not macbook yet, so no conclusions can be drawn apart from the obvious rise in HD space and maybe processor speeds...

the only major design news i've read is for the macbook pro, not the macbook

the macbook/ipod redesigns is still speculation on paper, no actual proof yet

unless their new design is slimmer (which the new pro is suspected to be, closer to the air direction), and the battery lasts longer, i don't see you losing out too much on buying one now, esp. when the free ipod deal is still on

Regarding the ipod deal, besides filling out the form (which does not ask for any proof of being a student/faculty member) and clicking on the online page saying you are a student or faculty member, how would Apple confirm you are or are not a student/faculty member?

I see that but I was wondering if they was anyway for Apple to confirm if you are a student/faculty member or not. If not, then what stops everyone from ordering something and getting a rebate on the ipod? :dunno:
