Any ideas on how to at least get the thing closed?

Get Revhard to weld it back together

Edit: How it happened? Maybe just the age of the vehicle, and usage of the hinges over the years

You won't be disappointed with Chris (Revhard's) work! He welded my rear 5link suspension and it came out beautifully!

hmmm... Those w124's are pretty indestructible (although I still, and always will, love the W140). It looks pretty twisted though, time for a new arm me thinks. Looks like the metal fatigued at the spring mounting area, then just gave way.

Replace it.

Trying to get the truck to fit properly after the hinge has been tweaked will be a nighmare.

Agreed. I could fix it, but it would be very labour intensive and likely cost more than a new arm.
