It's like a big go-kart!

Traded the NSX in for this and some cash. '03 NFR (the only Formula Red S2000 I've ever actually seen) AP1, 67,000 kms, bone stock. :D

I drove it up from Calgary and had a ball. My first ragtop, and it's crazy. It's like being at the park when you're in the car. I should have bought one years ago...

Yup.

I'm thinking either black Enkei RPF-1 or black TE-37s again.

No spoiler though. Clean rear. The lip isn't cheap though, good God.....

He probably thinks that the sky has more arm room, so he can more effectively use his whip, in drive-by whippings.

What a stupid comment. He's showing the beyond community his new car. He's not asking opinions on other cars or what car he should get. He bought a car (and a very nice one at that) and he's showing us pictures. What you think about the saturn Ion is completely irrelevant.

Because the Sky doesn't rev to 9000 rpm and handle like a tail happy bastard.

Sorry, I've driven a Sky and the S2000 is way, way more fun.

Are you looking at getting an OEM front lip? If so, I'd recommend you contacting Ganley Honda as that's where my old lip was purchased and was very much cheaper than other places.

True, but I'd much rather have a car with more usuable power, and one that doesn't need to be revved to the moon just to have some balls to it. :dunno:
The Sky redline is a great car, but no trunk space.... at all... much like the Miata. For that alone (sheer practicality I mean) I'd get the S2k, as the Sky is great for just Sunday drives, or commuting, but this is much better for the day to day living.

Beautiful car regardless.

Beat me too it!

Miata trunks are actually bigger than you'd think.

As for the Sky. There is literally NO trunk space. If the top is down, you cannot even get an overnight bag in it. (Test drove one a couple weeks ago) It was a nice feeling car, but nothing like an S2K.

I think you made a good decision!

About the same. The NSX was great on gas, and the S2K seems decent too. The S2000 has a smaller tank though. Still, it's half a tank from Edmonton to Calgary and that's fine.

Drop on something, just not sure yet.
Black Enkei RPF1s or the Black TE-37 route again.

I'm sitting on forced induction options. I'm probably going to wait for ScienceOfSpeed to finish their supercharger kit and see how it does. With Comptech bankrupt, who knows how the support may be down the road.

And the little things, clear markers, exhaust, etc.

If I was really balling, I'd go with ProjectJDM's full undertray and diffuser!

Ordered black RPF1s and these today.

Those should make water interesting. But they're cheaper than most UHP summer tires, so I'm gonna try 'em out.

I've heard good things about the AEM, other than the OBD-2 & temperature gauge, which modifry has a fix for :dunno:

From what I've read, you're going to need more than a roll. (Cut fender liner, relocate bumper tab, etc.)

I have 255 +45 9" rear RPF1 on my S2k. You won't have any problems on stock suspension. Once you lower, camber and a roll will be needed.

Oh yea and why would you get comp. tires? Are you only running track?

95EagleAWD
08-11-2008, 02:15 PM
Street and track. A couple guys are running full slicks on the street with no problems, really. A big puddle could suck, but those are rare.

And they're cheaper than most good tires anyways.

Isn't running slicks on the streets illegal? I think it is somewhere around $1-2000 for the fine and an automatic tow to the impound lot. After all that you get to go to the impound law and pay an impound fee and "delivery" fee. I am not so sure its worth running slicks on the street....

Slicks on the street? My experience with true slicks is they are brutal on the street, drag radials on the other hand are very streetable.

I got prices from tirerack.com comparing the Hoosiers to two of the best tires on the market right now (Z1* and RE-01R).

Assuming that the treadwear rating is correct, you will go through 5 sets of Hoosiers for every one set of Z1*'s (4.5x for the RE-01R). So to drive the same distance it'll cost you $4810 on the Hoosiers, $566 on the Dunlops, and $935 for the Bridgestones.

Hoosier R6
Front: 225/45ZR17 Price: $237.00 (each)
Rear: 255/45ZR17 Price: $244.00 (each)
Treadwear: 40

Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec
Front: 225/45ZR17 Price: $126.00 (each)
Rear: 255/40ZR17 Price: $157.00 (each)
Treadwear: 200

Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R
Front: 225/45ZR17 Price: $183.00 (each)
Rear: 255/40ZR17 Price: $238.00 (each)
Treadwear: 180

Good point. I guess my mindset is still in NSX tire size; oh well, they'll still be fun!

As for the illegality of it, they are DOT approved and how many cops are gonna notice the tread pattern?

Lightning edit here: My buddy is running the same slicks on his GTR all summer and expecting to get the season out of them. That's all I got out of tires in the NSX was one summer. So once I drop and align the S2K way lower, I'm not expecting good tire wear.

It isn't very likely that they will notice them while spinning, but if they are stopped beside you at a light or if they were to pull you over for something else and then noticed your tires, you would be fucked.

Ugh, if you want a 2jz-gte, just get a supra or swap one into an IS300. Don't put it in a honda and make a huge hack job of it and have totally uncontrollable power only good in a straight line.

The s2k was meant to take the twisties, not run 11s.

But an SC would be sweet, maybe even a small turbo?

The s2k was meant to take the twisties, not run 11s.

Convertible, reliable big power, torque, maybe it wouldn't have the same weight distribution but I'm sure I'd have a blast in it. I haven't read anything on s2ki about it being a hack job either.

Either way Ryan isn't down with it and this thread is for his car so I'll drop it.

Thanks bud.

I'm out of the Army on August 29; I'm taking some time off for a week or so afterwords, going to Kelowna and shit. I'll swing by on my way home and maybe we could go hit up some twisties around Drumheller; see if that Porsche of yours can keep up. :)

I don't think it would change the way it would handle that much. Usually you can tweak the suspension to make up for any weight balance issues.
