The only thing I've heard/seen is "iToner" which enables you to download various audio files directly into rintones. However this program is only available of MAC OS.

Does anyone know of any other way to get free ringtones?

Also, I tried purchasing some ringtones on iTunes but they were saved as a song in a folder labelled "downloads" in the Ipod application. Is there anyway to move these into the ringtones page so I can use them?

If not can I download ringtones from Itunes and use them?

The ringtone extension is .m4a or .m4r I forget which one but here is how I do it.

Download a program called "Wavepad".
Cut the part of the song you want as a ringtone, make sure it is 40s> or else it will not work.

Save the file as .m4r or .m4a I forget which one but whichever one is available in Wavepad. So for the sake of simplicity let's say wavepad saves the file as a .m4r, that means that the ringtone format is .m4a and you have to manually rename the file extension to .m4a

There, you have a ringtone. Now put it in the ringtone section in iTunes and sync your phone.

Ya I used those Video methods for the convert to AAC 30 second method. Made shitloads of ringtones already haha.

Anyone figure out how to change the email/sms alert tones without hacking the phone?

no way to do it yet... I had to jailbreak, SSH in, and then backup and overwrite one of the sms tones on the iPhone with the one I wanted (ICQ sound)...
