Well lots of us were talking about going camping sept long, so since the nissan cruise thread wasnt getting talked in alot, i decided to make a thread dedicated to it.

Location: still under decision. (Radium camp site is a idea, 3 hr drive)

Date: August 30th, August 31st, Sept 1st.

We would be living Friday after work at a set time, 6 or 7pm, and drive out to the camp site. And drive back monday. Or leaving early saturday, but friday would be the better idea

If you dont want to drive yourself, i have a extra seat in my car.

Whos coming:

Jared (Civictunr) - 1992 nissan silvia - extra seat available

You mean to tell me camping trips tend to be attracted to other camping trips of the same gender?! What has this world come to.

if radium area i vote spur valley (i think thats the name, spur something)

they have tennis and a creek and a 9 hole golf course and 4x4 trails (at least did) and fireworks on long weekends (at least they did)

umm that being said, pending girlfriend wanting to come, AND do the drive in my car haha... also means pending me getting a passenger seat :D oh and of course car is running well... but not that be of a deal since it is within my CAA towing area

I'm in. Maybe i can install a hitch last minute and tow a tent trailer ahahaha. I mean the KA was used as a truck motor as well. lol. Radium is nice, but if one of us has car issues, it's a long ways back to calgary. And there may be problems calling a tow due to cell phone reception... I mean we do drive S13s here. hahaha

If we leave around 6-7 and drive for 2 1/2 - 3 hours it will be dark when we try to set up tents and get organized....

Anyone have a truck with lights on it??
Or a shit load of flashlights???

We can leave Saturday morning, either way there will be traffic.

Cooked Rice

I vouch we leave sat. More people would be able to come. I work friday night. And plus I don't know if we all would want to stay 3 nights if we left friday.

If you get a few guys together, the pocaterra site in Kanaskis is GREAT for medium sized groups (like 20-40). The fire pit is good, it feels really secluded, the cook shack is amazing for a group site like this -- it's fully enclosed with 2 fireplaces in it, awesome if it rains.

http://www.calgaryview.calgaryalberta.net/kananaskiscamping/010accabtn10.html

The bad -- you can't leave your cars at the site. you have to lleave'm in a lot a couple of miles away. There is a road you can drive up (not easily, lowered cars are not going to make it) and drop your shit off, but you can't leave your vehicles at the site.

CivicTunr
07-23-2008, 06:07 PM
So everyone wants to leave on saturday?

What time do you guys want to leave at?
7? 8?

240SX92
07-24-2008, 12:21 AM
More importantly, does anyone have a truck? That site would work if we could all load our shit in a truck and bring it up.

Cooked Rice
07-24-2008, 01:32 AM
you can actually fit quite a bit into a 240 if you fold down the seat and take out the rear cover.

240SX92
07-24-2008, 07:47 AM
Oh that's not what i'm worried about, he said you got to bring your stuff up a huge trail that lowered cars can't particularly make. Bringing a bunch of 240's up a mile long trail is bad news.

silviafreek89
07-24-2008, 11:10 AM
Yea we need car access

and car parking less than 40 feet from the camp site would be great....that would ease our paranoid minds

Cooked Rice

how far are we looking to go? i know a few of us don't have the most comfortable S13s lol. for example no A/C, no interior, no sound deadening, fixed bucket seat... lol. The cruise to banff in my S13 sucked lol. I was deaf when I got back and my legs where being cooked by the heated floorboard from the exhaust. A 1 hour drive in my S13 feels like 2. haha.

I think we'd rather be our own group because we all interacted really well with eachother being that we all basicly have the same car. I've found with beyond cruises everyones in a bunch of tiny groups rather than socializing collectively. SR/kaconnection for the win lol.

The time is now.

I will start looking for a campsite tomorrow as they will be busy for the long weekend. Any preferences?

Not too familiar with how this thing goes down so if someone can search around as well that would be great.

Driving up Saturday morning seems to be the best idea...yes?

Cooked Rice
07-28-2008, 10:55 AM
Yes saturday morning. Probably not too far, because some people may only come for the cruise and not camp out. And if someone has car problems it'd be nice if they were within the 160KM that a AMA membership covers for towing back to Calgary.

silviafreek89
07-28-2008, 05:06 PM

I called a couple of places in the Kananaskis area, all booked solid.

There are 2 first come first serve places but someone would have to be there Friday so get a spot (I would assume).

I just came back from camping at ol macdonalds resort, im not sure how much it costs to book sites and what not cuz i went out with my girlies family but its about 2 hours north of calgary basicly between red deer and stettler. They have really good shower facilities, theres a beach,on site laundry facilities, theres lil pedal cart things you can rent they're fun to race with lol. We'd have to take a dirt road in but its not bumpy and theres nothing steep so noone should high center. Lemme know what you guys think!

RedStreak Campground in Radium is a good spot, it would be wise to call and book ahead NOW! It's a provincial campground so it may be harder to get everyone in a group together. Ideal situation would be to have campsites side by side.

With that said, if people want to stay up late and party then a isolated site may be more suitable. Lots of sites on the way to Radium BTW.
