Not surprisingly, the V8-equipped Camaro SS delivers better numbers across the board. Chevy's Camaro SS outfitted with the 422-hp 6.2-liter LS3 V8 six-speed manual hits 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and runs a 13.4-second quarter-mile at 108 mph according to Oppenheiser. Strangely enough, Oppenheiser also claims that the automatic-equipped SS Camaro, which is rated at 400 hp, runs from zero to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 13.3 seconds. "We optimized the shift points," he said.

It also ran 8:20 around the Nurburgring. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=129586

A Camaro SS ran the Nürburgring in 8:20.

A quick scan of an authoritative listing (it definitely looks authoritative, anyway) of Nürburgring lap times at supercars.net shows cars posting a lap time of 8:20 include the E36-generation BMW M3 in 1999, the Porsche 911 GT3 (993 generation) in the same year driven by 'Ring ace Walter Roehrl and stuff like the Audi RS6 in 2001. For a little extra perspective on that 8:20 lap time, GM recently boasted the coming '09 Corvette ZR1 did it in 7:26.4.

Just for comparison:

So the New Camaro is faster than:

A whole wack of NSXs
BMW M3 (2000)
Mercedes Benz C55
Cobalt SS
996 Carrera 4
WRX STi (2004)
Callaway Corvette (1999)
Lotus Exige S (2008)
Porsche Cayman S
Many other Porsches
MB SLK 32 AMG
Ferrari F355
C5 Vette (auto)

5.0

Hoo-ah, just in time for sky-high gas prices. Man, why couldn't this have come out 10 years ago :(

I'm not really surprised that the automatic is faster by a little bit. The same is true about the Mustang. Today's automatics really are incredible. Throw on a custom tune to eliminate any throttle delay, optimize the shift points further, and firm up the shifts. You'll never miss a shift and have no problem lighting up the tires! I'm sure its not as "fun" for some. But meh, different strokes for different folks. :burnout:
