About 20-30 mins ago, a cable snapped on a scaffolding for a window cleaners at the BMO building downtown across from TD (7th and 3rd).

Fire trucks came, and they had a crane. As the crane was going up, the window cleaners managed to somehow fix the engine, and get back to the top. Everyone involved is alright.

Pics!

Oh! That's what that was about.... I saw the fire trucks but didn't see the window cleaners.

My productivity went to 0 for a good 1/2 hour... I'm on the 10th floor right across from where it happened... I believe it was on the 13th ish floor. So I had like the perfect view.

I walked by when it happened. The guy up there seemed pretty calm about it. I would've been crapping my pants.

Glad everything worked out well in the end.

He probably was, but when you're already in a precarious position on a swing stage, the last thing you want to be doing is moving around all panicky-like

I would bet those guys are going to be looking for different jobs starting this afternoon.

Dear Boss.....I quit.

I don't know that I would have signed up for a job like that in the first place but I sure wouldn't be going back after something like that.

They both seemed pretty calm.

When the sirens turned on, and the fire dept was coming, the one guy on the left (the one on the phone) started laughing.

All in all, everyone was pretty calm... I was pretty impressed. And the crane from the fire dept was pretty cool too. They almost smashed right into the +15. The were just a little too far back, and had to squeeze in the corner in order to get up/down.

So that is what all of the sirens were. Good pics.

i never knew the firetrucks cherry pickers could reach that high, 10-15 stories?

^i think window washer jobs get 'danger pay' or w/e it's called

I was wondering why there was so much going on, I drove by and saw a couple of fire trucks and an ambulance on it's way.

Good to know that they're fine... I'd be taking the rest of the day off and heading home for a stiff drink.

This was right outside my window! If only I could read lips, but I'm guessing anybody could imagine what they were saying.

I might have tried to smash a window and crawl into the building.

Actually on that note, can you imagine if someone's desk was right by the window there? Like there's this loud noise and the thing tilts down, some scared guy taps on the window and goes "oh hai there, i can has rescue pls?"

That 'crane' is the Bronto aerial platform.. only one like it in Canada. (Montreal has a handful of similar ones and we have some smaller ones here but nothing that size exists elsewhere.)

It reaches 50m or ~150 ft. Most other aerial ladders in the city FD (when they're working!) reach 100-105 ft.

The company that makes them, Bronto Skylift out of Finland, has one that is 101 meters tall (twice the height of CFD's) and can reach 33 floors. No thanks!!!
