I'm roughly ~$7900 in parts only minus any maintenance cost. I started with stock and replaced parts over 2yr as they started to fail.

below is breakdown in order of replacement:

500 - audio setup
200 - new windshield
1000 - h- rated tires (I've gone through 6 tires in 2 yrs)

500 - new brembo stock replacement brake rotors all around and hawk pads
1000 - nismo s-tune suspension
2500 - ca18det engine with new flywheel and oil pan and lots of misc. bits

I just did some rough calculations and I've spent around $15 500 on mods, and probably close to 7 grand on maintenance since I started pouring money into my car.

Add more if you count winter tires and other random stuff. That 7 grand on maintenance is a low estimate.

I haven't even touched the engine... yet. ;)

A little over 3k on wheels/tires, springs/struts, and a few minor things.

I wouldn't call my car a project car though. At this point in my life (2 kids under 2.5yrs old) I just don't have time for it. But I don't think I could ever drive a completely stock car.

Oh, and I don't think things like windshields, brake pads or any other regular maintenance should be included like some people are doing. Or the cost of the car. But maybe I'm reading the original post incorrectly. :dunno:

No not really. This is a car forum, look how many people voted on the top category. I'll bet over 1/2 of those votes spent more than me. This is our hobby, everyone dumps their life savings into their cars here.

Regret modding a car?

Sometime maybe a little... but like Rage said, it's our hobby and it's what we do.

I'm >$15k I'm sure.... but I've never actually added is up, might be a little depressing haha  :banghead:

Knowing what I know now...I would still do it all over again...but would have chosen A) better platforms or B) gone right to the top versus building with whack ass parts and shit from the get go you know??

It's damn depressing. I made the mistake of tallying it up once, and that in combination with some bad mods made me pretty bitter about modding for a while.

Totally. You learn awful quick about good quality mods and poor quality mods. Do it once and do it right.

Current project car? Or are we including the ones of the past? haha

My two current cars are sitting around $15K in mods. Mostly cosmetic stuff. But to add up car mods I did on my previous cars, wow don't even want to think about that at all.

I'm at about $15,000

It sucks cause lots of it is when you buy crappy parts or have impulse purchases then you realize you don't need it or want it, sell it and lose money.

I'm with Arif, I wish I had thought more carefully about the platform, been more patient and gotten something better. But you gotta work with what you got.

I was 40k+ into into a project car a few years back until I decided to give up and put it back to stock. lol. Don't think i'll spend that much ever again on a car.

honestly just like rage said it is like an addiction, i end up dumping money in mods into my DD'S which were supposed to stay stock according to the plan ;p;

the 2.slow gti sits at around 15k + in mods (wheels and suspension alone were $5k) and the civic is at around 7k + in mods (lucky i was able to find used stuff because its a civic haha) and it is not done yet!...lucky enaugh i do 95% of the work myself haha

to add a twist to this thread i think we should add pics of the car/s in question just so people see your pride and joy ...here are mine:

Selling a modded car is financial suicide haha.... why do you think many people with insanly modded cars end up owning them for years and years (or forever). It's cause they've spent so much money they just can't bring themselvesf to selling it.

However if you have quality mods on a popular car you should be able to get a decent return on your mods if you part out.
