I just found out that I paid about $90/hr labour for an apprentice to do my brakes...is this legal??? What can I do?? I hear this isn't the first time at this dealership.

why would it be illegal?

your paying the shop rates...

do you actually think the mechanics that work on your car get paid the full labour cost?

There are always a few apprentices at each dealership. Thats how they learn and get their tradesman ticket. This is perfectly normal. $90 shop rate is pretty normal around town also. Some dealerships are even more than that now. You could of saved $90 and hour to do them yourself. Its easy enough.

you dont get rates depending on who works on your car. You get rates on what it costs the whole shop to operate and pay the staff

Why would it be illegal? There are 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year apprentices... how do you think a journeyman became a journeyman? magic? no... he was once a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year apprentice, that is how you learn to do a job, you go through steps. There is nothing wrong with an apprentice doing a job, they go to school every year for what they do...

and $90 is a great labour rate... in Calgary the dealerships are at least $115.00 per hour

if this '08 is dumb enough to think the apprentice is getting paid $90/hr to do brakes, do you really think they're smart enough to do them on their own?

Oil and brakes are pretty much all the first year apprentices get to do. Every shop would be the same.

$90 per hour wouldn't be a dealership rate

it is totally fine for an apprentice to be doing your brakes, but they should not be charging you 90 an hour. Really, i mean, brakes are so easy anyone can do them, and all they do is make you stop. I would seriously get a lawyer, and start writing complaints on different boards as well. try 780 tuners. Also try talking to the BBB in this regard, and might be a good idea to get AMVIC involved in this as well. who knows how many other people got scammed like this....Then, once you pull your head out of your ass and wake up from the methane induced dream, you will see the light and learn to fix your own car.

By the way, you should post up the name of this place so we can all go there for cheap labor....

why would you get a lawyer thats the stupidest thing i've ever heard.a lawyer would cost you alot
of money and all that would end up happening is you losing alot more money than the measly
couple hundred bucks you spent getting the brakes done.too many penny pinchers are out there these days if you want cheaper rates than find a backyard mechanic to do it but remember if shit fucks up you got what you paid for and
if you want quality work done then dont complain about the labor rate
