Hey bud, a Lamborghini is built in Italy so it's an import :poosie: (learn something every day!)

The Sy/Ty are "mini-trucks" with V6's so their closer to the import/scc scene than they are to the big block crowd. Their honarable mentions, and if you saw them race this past weekend, you'd see why they deserve to be.

Yeah yeah, I know. I consider an import if it's built outside of North America, but that's me.

So Adam took his Diablo out. Does he still have that other Ferrari or the 20B FD running yet?

I dunno, if I think it's fair if we only count Alberta tracks, don't you guys?

FYI Spokane's track is 2200ft, as is Bud Park 2200, Race City is 3300. (elevation)

whatthe
09-25-2003, 07:26 PM
To be fair... wouldn't you want to correct everything to sea level? And that would require humidity/temperature/altitude/etc for each time/condition that each car raced.. We could be just like Road and Track or Car and Driver magazines. It would also be nice to verify if altitudes posted by Race City and Bud Park are true altitudes or if they have averaged in any temperature corrections as I had heard rumours of.

Actually, I'm not sure that I care about discussions on fair and not fair, but I do care about what some guy ran at the local track vs. what I ran at the local track. If I ever raced in Spokane, I might care more I suppose. I actually wish there was a Race City thread seeing as I live in Calgary and have yet to venture to Bud Park near Edmonton. I guess my point is a bit of a moot point for my own complaining.... I'm just going to have to go to Bud Park just to see how many seconds off of the top 10 I am.

I think the reason they should be not on the list is simply they are push rod based motors! If you have a overhead cam motor in you truck you deserve to be on the list! All the big sanctioning body's in the states base qualification on the overhead cam status! Just my two cents!:drama:

11.3 - that is fast
From a Talon!
Or Any 4 banger.

Back in the weird old seventies I had a 1967 Plymouth GTX with a 426 Hemi, dual Carter AFB's, and the usual gamut of modifications that were popular back in the seventies. I ran it at Gimli, and turned fairly consistent 12 seconds, which was on street tires (Non-radial Mickey Thompson L70's) and the consistency was great considering that it was a 4 speed with a 3200 lb pressure plate (sure strengthened my left knee) that was not the easiest thing to shift smoothly enough to avoid tire-melting/E.T. killing wheelspin, not to mention that the whole damn car tried to jump into the right lane when you hammered it. At 100 mph the flying-box aerodynamics imparted some er...thrilling road sensations.

Things sure have changed. Fours that beat big blocks from the days of the legends. The Hemi was The King - NOBODY beat me (oh well, maybe once a blown 440 dart did, but we wont talk about that here) Now some rinkydink 4 banger Honda civic from Japan could dust my Hemi off with only slight difficulty.

But we had The Noise and The Smoke.
NOTHING sounded like a full house big block.

Ducati... since i am originally from Winnipeg... i used to go to Gimli to watch the drags all of the time... that city really needs a drag strips considering how big the car scene is there.

However you missed something. An 11 second 4 banger Talon is much less streetable than an 11 second Hemi GTX.

If you put as much money into the Hemi as the same person did with the 4 banger Talon you would be seeing 9s... or possibly 8s

not entirely true ;)

look at leon's daytona, he DROVE it to the sait performance shop meet, it looks bone stock, stock seats, dash, etc. and still acts like a regular 4 banger, plus they didn't break the bank on it either.

if you're smart about it, and have the ability, a turbo 4 cyl is much cheaper and easier to drive on the street.

Ducati
01-23-2004, 12:17 AM
I am no authority on 4 cyl performance, however it seems to me that in order to extract that kind of power from a 4 cyl engine it has to be wound pretty tight.
I can't see an 11 second 4 cyl car being much more than one summer of fun for your thousandsa of dollars, before it grenades, and you have to start all over again.

If you were from Wpg perhaps you were around in the late 70's/early 80's and remember the final days of the Street Machines. Those old big-block cars were not only fast, but often were our daily drivers for years. They didn't handle or stop worth shit, though. My GTX had 10 inch drums on all 4 - on a car that was capable of 11's.
That is the one area where I feel cars are better now.

But then again, sport motorcycles are faster than any street car I know of.

"the bike is no sloth either, 10.2 without nitrous, still doesn't beat a 9.4 that the stang put up though"

There's an exception to every rule.
I personally do not know of, or have ever personally heard of, ANY street car beating a Sportbike. I've had goofs in Mustangs and stuff think they can run me, and even the little FZR400 would utterly humiliate a big bad Mustang driven by Mr. SupaThug.

Hell, I used to be able to out accelerate V8 Mustangs & Camaro's etc. with a fully loaded 85' HD FLT loaded with gear and my ex-wife on the back. There is just no way anything but the most extreme car can even come close to keeping up with a proper streetbike.

I know people who have fast bikes, like 9 seconds fast, that are street legal. There is always someone faster, and generally 9999 times out of 10,000 the bike is faster.

In addition to the top 10 alberta. I think it would be cool if the list was divided top 10 per race venue as well, ie: bud park and Race city, as it's obvious that bud park is faster and it would be nice to see a comparison.

A GMC truck runs 10.8 second ??? serious ? lots of modify ?

Oh . I better consider buying a truck from now on ... Saw a SVT truck, look good ..and cheap too ! ha ha .. :nut:

However ... I am serious .. how can a truck be that fast ? 10.8 is even faster then the fastest car in the world ! ( Enzo is 11.1@133mph)

I am really confused ..
Hehe youve been in Alberta long enough now Im surprised you've never come across a cyclone or a typhoon. Quite possibly one of the most impressive GM products ever made
