AFAIK, it's mega-pricy, and they have a separate club for the ladies.

Plus you have to spend a certain amount of $$$ in their dining services per month.

Bow Valley is close to the 5th Ave WHC - facilities are way better than the Bay Club.

I work in the building with the 5th Ave WHC, and went for a tour there. It's the smallest and busiest gym I've ever seen. It's really expensive too for what you're getting.

Well, I guess it depends on when you go. I go in at 6am and there's hardly anyone there. Plus membership allows you to use other WHCs around the city.

What's the monthly fee at the WHC downtown now? I remember it used to be $75 but that was a while ago.

Im a new member at the BVC...

The price is a little high... but remember its just not a gym.. its more of a social club. Depending on what business you are in, it can also be thought of as a business investment. You WILL gain contacts and met people through the club. I joined mainly as a strong reccomendation from my Dad who was a member there for 20+ years.
Ive been going at lunch lately, and havent had any problems getting on any machines, or anything. You do have to spend a certain amount on food per year, but really its not that bad if you normally eat out.
Like someone said above.. the girls and guys sections are seperate, unless you are doing classes... which are together.

One thing I'll say.. you can barter a little with the prices.. in June membership dues were 50% off.. maybe ask for that special, or reduced monthly rates on laundry etc. There is also a refferal program.. in which we could work something out! (I believe its a draw for people with refferals)

Checked out their facilities during the lunch hour, and it was crazy busy in there! Plus their change rooms were pretty small (women's side). I'm not sure if it was the day that I went there, but I found that there were a lot of older people (40 - 50 year olds). I don't think they were as expensive as the BVC (if I remember correctly).

It all depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking to do some networking and want something more executive, I'd go for BVC.

I've been a off and on member of Banker's Hall since 2000. For the price, I don't think it can be beat (as far as downtown gyms go). My last full year costed just under $1000 (about $80/month). It's nice to have access to the swimming pool, squash courts, gym, and even the basketball half-court if you want to shoot some hoops. There's a steam room and towel service is included as is the bare niceties like shampoo/hair gel/body lotion/hair dryers/irons.

The executive side is a bit pricier but they provide you with workout clothes, towels, terry cloth robes, hot tub, and additional niceties like conditioner/qtips/mouthwash/etc. There's also equipment in the change room as well so you can do your workout in there.

I was a member there. It got a little pricey for me. It went up to over $110 bucks a month. The change rooms are quite small, and it can be really busy at lunch like most gyms.

Don't mean to jack the thread, but is anybody a member at the YMCA downtown?

WHC is the cheapest downtown at 75 bucks a month after GST...with that you get access to all other WHC's in Calgary and Edmonton with the exception of the flagship clubs (ie. Edgemont)....the Bay Club has lots of hot women to look at but the trainers are meh....5th avenue has a couple of hot ass trainers (literally, hot ass!), one of them looks like a porn star, it's kind of distracting actually....equipment, you get all the basics and rarely have to share unless you're going at ultimate peak times but that will be the same any place you join.

I have been at the BVC since Dec and yeah it is a bit expensive (work pays) but I can get my work out done in half the time.

Also the location is great easy to bike to work, hit the shower then the office.

If your under 30 there is requirment to spend $$ on food.

I suck at squash but the pro there is great for lessons too!

The downside is the price and is pretty old

I'm also curious, anyone a member at the Y downtown? At a little over 500 a year for a student doenst seem that bad, but I've only been inside the Crowfoot location.

The Y downtown is nice. I go there, have a plus membership which has a nice steam, equipment and all that you need. They are renovating so it shall be nice when done!
