My house was broken into yesterday July 31, 2008 and the guys helped themselves to pretty much every thing.

Sony VEGA 42" Plasma TV
Dell desktop computer + 19" monitor
HP 19" laptop (stuffed into the bag where I had my school textbooks & notes)
LG External DVD Drive
4GB IPOD Classic
4GB IPOD Nano
Telus HTC Touchphone
Telus MOTOQ cellphone
Digital camera
phone chargers
+++ tons of others that i might find out later on.
Settling down to eat the dinner. realized they took the food from the fridge.
Going to bed, realized the alarm is gone
Going to work in the morning, realized my shoes are gone.

Hoping to have a nice long weekend....
What do i do about all those data that I had on my computer???

:(

Thanks for reporting your ... terrible experience.

It is a reminder to me of how sly crooks are. Alarms, CCTV, dogs, deadbolts and other anti theft devises are just never enough.

Note to self:
Photocopy my car insurance and registration papers, whiting out any information that gives a thief too much information. When the cops stop me and I show them my "copies", I tell them I'm just protecting myself against theft. The originals are in my locked files at home.

Now how do we get away from garage door openers getting hacked into or stolen? Maybe I have to get out of my car and use a keypad to open the garage?:bullshit:

Go to the post about cheap security measures and share / glean what you can.

If you know someone who works for Telus, have them look up your phone and go into the system to see which tower it's picking up. That way at least you'll know the area your phone is in and any activity that was done on it recently.

If you phone Telus, they won't waste their time doing this for you, you have to know someone with access to the system.
