So for the first time since bought my 40D i went out to try and take pictures (the usual played out misty/milk water picture), i had major issues with it being too bright or too dark, maybe some tips from you gurus?

the pics also seem to lose detail when hosted through photobucket, anyone know a better site for upload that doesn't kill my original pic? :dunno:

these pics, they're too dark IMO, but i have no idea about photography anything.

this was about 2 pm overcastish, would shooting at dusk on a clear day make better lighting conditions? any criticism/tips are encouraged
I just have a 17-58mm lens to start out with.

I would shoot with a higher F- stop and more exposure. But I was able to fix a bit of the picture in PS...

nice photoshop. I would also say that perhaps shooting in less mid day light might help. It looks like the water was getting blown out by reflection and your camera made the whole image darker to compensate.

wow nice Dirty_SOHC, i'm trying for photoshopless pics, but is that even possible these days? comparing to those national geographic pics :D

anywho i'll take those settings into account next time i try, tnx guys

this is Big Hill springs nt'l park, funny what a camera angle can do to make something seem larger than it is, the falls aren't really falls imo, they're really puny compared to stuff like elbow/ram falls

Possible, but pointless really. The amount of correcting you can do in pshop is amazing and there's no real reason not to take advantage of it.

Instead of limiting resolution, you can choose the 1MB size limit instead. That way, Photobucket won't resize/recompress your photo as long as you keep the original file under 1MB.
