All car rental place requires the driver to be 21 and older right?
And for additional drivers, each drive will have either own insurance (assuming using own insurance)? Or the primary driver's insurance will cover for the additional drivers?

Depends on the place. As an example Enterprise wont rent to you if your less than 25 because of the insurance. I have coverage through my work so I can rent cars like this all the time but I cant get their insurance.

I believe you are correct, most places are 21 and as ^^^ mentioned, some are most likely 25.

Enterprise is 21+ over with $10/day surcharge. Other rental companies like Avis, National, charge $50/day surcharge. Budget does not rent to anyone under 25.

winner!!! Enterprise is your best bet if you are 21-25. You can only rent up to a full size car and its 10/day more but its better than any other rental place.

I went though this ordeal last week. I was flown by the company and had a rental car booked. All under a corporate account with their own insurance. Went to pick up the car at Enterprise and they wouldn't give it to me because I wasn't 21. Argued with the guy there and talked to managers saying it was a corporate rental and that I'm now stranded at the airport because of this bull shit. Enterprise was terrible and wouldn't do anything.

After that I went to Hertz and talked to the guy there and they were 21 also but said if I have a reservation through the company they waive the age requirement. After many calls back to head office I finally got a car. As far as I know all rental places are 21+ for economy cars. If you want any other class (ie. SUV) its 25+. I understand why but I still think it is ridiculous.

All that being said U-haul will rent to 18. So if you are desperate go rent a U-Haul. Most locations have pickup trucks.

What company is it with? Your insurance from the company may cover the rental vehicle, but the owner of vehicle (enterprise) is responsible for liability. So even though the vehicle will be covered through your companies insurance, if anything happens enterprise has unlimited liability.

:werd: I've rented through them a dozen times and have never been charged an underage fee. My rates are always the same rates as are posted.

21-24 allows you to get an economy, compact, intermediate, standard, full size.

25+ allows you to get all those + premium/luxury cars, trucks, suvs, minivans, and cargo vans.

I'm 23 and in Calgary I tried to rent SUV/Pickup several times but most of the rental companies are really strick about age.

AVIS - downtown and airport location, up to full size car only
Budget - airport, full size car only
Hertz - I managed to convince them to give me a brand new 08 Yukon SL with only 38km in it
- apparently I can rent a premium or a convertible from them too
Alamo - they screwed up once and gave me a 300 AWD
Enterprise - didnt really like their vehicle selection

in Lloydminster I managed to rent a 3.0L Diesel Jeep Patriot with no problem
