Aston Martin SUPERCAR
One-77

Aston Martin has just released one snap-shot of its upcoming supercar. Toping the DBS in the Aston Martin lineup, the One-77 will be powered by a massive 7.0-liter V-12 engine which we expect will make roughly 600 hp – if not more!

The body will be hand crafted in aluminum and the state-of-the-art chassis will be made of carbon fiber.

Pricing should be in the half-a-million dollar range – if not ridiculously higher.

Aston says this will be its ultimate creative interpretation of what Aston Martin is and will be produced in limited numbers (we guess 77 by the name) for a lucky few.

The era of epic supercars is certainly not over at Aston Martin, with the release today of an official teaser for a new flagship model that’s set to enter production in an extremely exclusive run of just 77 cars. The only details released thus far are that it will feature a sophisticated carbon-fiber chassis with a handcrafted aluminum body and a 7.0L V12 powerplant. The new teaser shows a distinctly Aston Martin design, but with an added aggressiveness that even the company’s racing models lack. Side strakes and character lines on the hood plus an indentation above the rear fenders combine to give it a decidedly fast look, even while standing still. ‘One-77’ is only the working title for the car. Last year the ‘DBX’ name was thrown up by the carmaker’s CEO Ulrich Bez, but until now there was very little information available in regards to a new Aston Martin supercar. The new One-77, meanwhile, is expected to be based around a heavily modified version of the current vertical horizontal (VH) platform. In keeping with the ‘7’ theme of the car, power is rumored to be up around the 700hp (522kW) mark, and this should ensure the One-77 becomes the fastest production Aston in history. Expect to see 0-60mph (96km/h) runs of 3.5 seconds and a top speed in excess of 200mph (320km/h).

Why would they make a different design? Aston has hands down the best looking cars on the road. Although Alfa and Maserati have both made a few that are just as nice.

The DB9/DBS/Vanquish look way more aggressive than the DB7 ever did.

Porsche hasn't changed the 911 in 40 years. Why would Aston stop building the most beautiful cars on the planet?

Porsche built the CGT, which looks different from any 911. Longer, lower, wide, more powerful. Aston should do something similar.

Wait, what? The Carrera GT is the best example of how a car where form follows function can still result in a beautiful car... a lesson that Ferrari has yet to learn.

The back end of a Carrera GT with the spoiler up looks like it was designed by retards.

Considering there hasn't been a spoiler on a Ferrari since the F355 Challenge, you'd figure Porsche could do the same with underbody aero.

Ferrari certainly doesn't make classically beautiful cars like it used to, that's for sure. But there's no denying the functional look of a 430 Scud. And it looks a lot meaner and more functional than a Carrera GT.

I'm sure this car will sell, but to the wrong crowd. In the age of limited produced cars asking for extremely high price tag, 77 is not exclusive enough. The reason why the Reventon did so well is because there were only 20 of them, 1 of which is in Vancouver sitting in a garage and will prob be driven a few times a year. AM's niche market is stabbing in the territory of Enzo/Reventon/Veyron/MC12 owners which is dangerous territory for this company considering it won't be able to compete with what they put out. However, if you have enough money to buy any of those cars, you can prob add this to your collection anyways, which is why 77 is not exclusive enough.

very interesting, in Top Gear season 1, one of the episodes they had 2 car designers, one making astons/jaguars other worked in volvo and now in astons or jags not sure..
anyways they were both given paper and a small amount of time to sketch something new (e-type) or something along those lines
they both sketched very similar designs, and it looked very similar to this image

ah here it is

Full details for Aston Martin One-77 revealed in 'technical showcase'

The era of epic supercars is certainly not over at Aston Martin, with the carmaker confirming the development of a brand new flagship model late last year. A life-size mock up was then put on display at the 2008 Paris Motor Show to tease the public and start building interest for the car, which is estimated to cost a cool £1.2 million. The latest turn of events will see a technical showcase for the new One-77 supercar presented at this week’s Geneva Motor Show.

Aston Martin will essentially be presenting the bare chassis of the first production version of the One-77 in an attempt to showcase the engineering and design expertise behind the bespoke supercar. After all, the One-77 is being built not just as a halo car, but as an ultra-halo car, a sort of rekindling of the legacy of Aston Martin, plus a projection of the brand into the future. It's designed to be the most quintessential Aston Martin ever, and the most perfectly personalized car available.

The structural core of the One-77 is a lightweight and immensely rigid carbon-fiber monocoque. Conceived and designed at Aston Martin's Gaydon HQ, the monocoque, or 'tub', has been built in partnership with Multimatic (MTC) – a world leader in carbon composite technology.

Attached to this tub is a set of double wishbones at each corner, with pushrods employed to transfer vertical suspension movements to the horizontally mounted spring/damper units.

The dampers are fully adjustable and feature advanced Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve (DSSV) technology - a world-first for a road car application. These special valves use high-precision machined components to enable the shock-absorbing characteristics of the damper to be changed without having to remove them from the car.

Underlining the truly bespoke nature of the One-77, the car's suspension characteristics will be precisely set-up by Aston Martin engineers to suit the owner’s exact requirements.

The One-77's power unit is an extreme evolution of the 6.0L V12 engines fitted to the DBS, DB9 and new V12 Vantage models. The brief for engine team was to take the 6.0L V12 as far as it could go, both in terms of output and weight reduction. The targets were a power output of no less than 700hp (522kW) with a 10% reduction in engine mass. Incredibly, the Aston Martin and Cosworth engineers who worked on the powertrain achieved a mass reduction of some 25% while increasing displacement to 7.3L.

Wearing Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires (255mm up front and 335mm up back) developed specifically for it, all 700hp is transmitted to the road through the rear wheels via a new six-speed gearbox. Controlled via column-mounted paddles behind the steering wheel, this robotised sequential manual is a new generation of Aston Martin's familiar automatic.

Stopping power comes from a set of carbon-ceramic discs and uprated calipers designed to transmit less heat from the brake pads into the brake fluid.

With a projected weight of 1,500kg the One-77 will occupy the very highest echelons of road car performance. Top speed is predicted to be in excess of 200mph, with a 0-60mph time in approximately 3.5 seconds.

The custom-built nature of the One-77 echoes personalization programs recently undertaken by Lamborghini and Ferrari. Buyers will be able to customize every single part of the car, from the gearbox to the interior trim elements. Even the seats will be tailored to fit the driver and passenger’s individual curves. As the company CEO Ulrich Bez explains, the car should fit the owner like a tailored suit.

The next stage in its development will be the performance and durability phase so expect some exciting spy footage in the coming months.
